Hi. My monthly bandwith is limited and i want to know if the speed of the lan or wlan is related to consumption?

Lets says that i have a computer with 100 Mbits/s and a laptop with 54 Mbits/s.

If I do the exactly same thing over internet with both will the 54 Mbits/s consume less bandwith than the 100 Mbits/s ?

If I open 3 pages both on the 54 and the 100 will it have consume more on the 100 ?

Thank you

No
The download limits is for say you download 450mb files on both you still downloaded 450mb to the internet service. Also they take into account your downloads and uploads, email downloads too.Say you have 80 gig limit and you download 25 gig in a week you still have 55gigs.Speed of modems is meaningless to the limit.

Are you getting bandwidth and data caps confused?

As an example... Usually, if, you have a data cap, and you exceed it, they may throttle your bandwidth.

And, to answer your question, it does not matter how fast you download 2 gigabytes... it is still 2 gigabytes.

All the megabits rating does is tell you how fast (approximately) your downloads will happen. If you download a file, it doesn't matter how fast you got it. It's still the same file, taking the same amount of bandwidth.

The difference comes because you can download more data in a fixed amount of time and it may also enable new functions such as video streaming, perhaps. All these things mean that you will download more data in a fixed time and hence use more bandwidth.

He must mean data not bandwidth,Rogers or Cogeco he is
using is data caped. And no if you go over it they just charge $1.50 per gig with no bandwidth decrease,They will hold it against you though when and if you leave and want to come back.

I did not know how or who he was using. I was using the throttling as an example of data in relationship to bandwidth. I will adjust my post.

Sorry, they charge extra for exceeding the data cap.

And, either way, the answer to the question is no matter how fast your connection... if, he uses 2 gigabytes of data at 54Mbit/s or 100Mbits/s, it is still 2 gigabytes of data.

Edit:

If you are worried about your monthly data usage/cap; then, you may want to use something like BitMeter II.

Quote from there site:
Does your ISP restrict how much you can download each month? Maybe the ISP Restrictions screen would be useful, just enter details of your monthly quota, and BitMeter will warn you when you approach your limit.

Or, BitMeter OS

Quote from there site:
BitMeter OS also lets you define Alerts to notify you when your internet usage exceeds some limit that you specify.

Who's you ISP? Most of the time they just say there is a cap and not enforce it

Last month they charged me the extras so I was wondering but I just ended up upgrading and now I have 90 gigs combined.
