i think the WiiU is going to be a big hit this Christmas. Lots of people loved the Wii and those same people are ready to upgrade to a new sleeker and powerful version.

You guys do realize that the vast majority of people who play video games do so casually and enjoy the physicial interaction and social interaction that the Wii provides? I mean, sitting on your PC in the dark playing BF3 makes you the lonely minority.

sitting on your couch and playing mw/bf3 on 360 does not make you the majority also then;)

i know i am not part of the majority, i barely have time for games. maybe an hour a night playing skyrim on PC.

the wii sold nearly 100 million while the xbox360 sold about 65 million and a lot of those sales came after the price drop and the introduction of the kinect. face it, most people want their games to have a physical element and want it to be social (meaning play with family/friends who are there in the room with them.)

Everyone I know that bought a wii did so because they were cheaper and they thought it would be fun with the wands and shiz. Then several months later they found their wii collecting dust in the corner. I think the novelty wears off rather fast for many. Not all mind you.

I don't know anyone personally that uses their wii on a regular basis but they all use the PS3's, 360's and PC much more.

I mean many kids got wiis because their parents didn't want to spend more money for the PS3 or 360. That alone must be a good reason why they sold so many. Price is everything to some people.

The wii fun factor wears off quickly IMO.

The Wii U is more appealing to me but it depends on the games.

What's the point of "unboxing videos"? Is it for people who can't unbox?
Even teardown videos make more sense.

I think you guys got the wrong idea about the Wii U.

the Wii U is backwards compatible with Wii games so you can use the Wii Remote/Nunchuk. the most they will ask you to do is tilt the thing or touch the screen. if you don't buy the Wii U Pro Controller on day one your doing it wrong..

they already got third party Super Famicom Wii U Pro controller :D

The Wii U is more appealing to me but it depends on the games.

Everyone I know who bought a wii was either buying a wii for their kids because they were cheaper(thats what parents do when they don't know) or bought them for specific titles, if your a parent and your looking for something for your kids the wii is an attractive system and it does have the kiddy look and its cheaper, thats how most of them are bought, rarely have I seen anyone actually exercising with one, very very few times, most of the people I know with wii's don't use them for exercise, they exercise outside with others:ohwell:, I got mine as a gift personally -_-

The problem remains the same, nintendo needs better marketing so they can get more of an audience to get more developers working on AAA titles(the gamecube and wii suffered from this big time)

The wii u is more appealing to me also, but I personally would like a better joystick, love that super famicon joystick btw,

I just had a few Wii U games in my hands and the games are bluray and they are still 60 dollars, the spin is that the Wii U games have the scratch proof coating ps3 games have but they have a copy protection layer on them so if you stick them into a normal drive they do not read unlike ps3 games it seems

Its a special proprietary blu ray made for nintendo.

They give you a big bulky controller and its up to you to buy a regular controller? Then if you want to play wii games you can use your old wii controller or do you have to get another one for that?

How many controllers does one have to buy to play wii u?

Old controllers are usable but you need the motion plus attachment or the controller with it built in for many games.
Fortunately, I have those; I bought 3 Deluxe Versions from Target. Time for EBay...
For single player games the included controller is all you need.

the Wii U tablet controller should be compatible with every game. the Wii U Pro Controller isn't. you have to check the back of the box. New Super Mario Bros U doesn't support Pro Controller :( and only some games let you send video to the controller if you don't want to use a TV.

So I read that the Wii U controller uses a resistive touch screen and which are sketchy to use, lol. There's a reason nobody uses resistive touch screens, they suck.

I will give it a year before even considering.

A console generally requires at least 3 decent RPGs for me to consider. I think Wii had only four titles I really liked which is brutally little compared to PS3 & Xbox360.

But PSP & DS had more titles I loved compared to PS3, Wii, Xbox360 all combined. As for PS2..., I've got so many games stocked that I have a hard time counting in my basement storage room.

Vita currently has 4 for me.

3DS has only 2 for me but 2 good ones are coming next year confirmed.

By the way, Wii U has a rather interesting start of its life. http://kotaku.com/5961577/bummed+out-wii-u-owners-vent-on-twitter-during-huge-firmware-update

My Wii, with 4 kids in the house, gets daily use.

The WiiU that will sit in a secret location until a special day soon, that'll get used more.

Wii users.....they've grown. WiiU is a logical step. Nevermind if you've been a GameBoy/DS/PSP user.

Neither product is really intended for anyone that reads TPU. Maybe a few, but not anyone I see posting here. You all had your Nintendos already. Time to move on to the big boy toys, and leave the Tonka toys in the toybox.:shadedshu IT's not yours, don't touch! :p

Good luck with that, most people are reporting that they were able to walk in stores and pick one up the following day, so I have severe doubts the demand is as wild as it was for the Wii.

I'm not too interested in the Wii U. It doesn't seem to do anything I can't get from my PC or a last-gen console, and really doesn't justify a $400+ initial investment. It's got a blu-ray drive, but can't play BR movies or DVD's. It has all sorts of "apps" for it, but only Netflix even works right now, and TVii was quietly pushed back a month or two. It has all these interesting features, but Nintendo says it's up to the (already burdened) developers to ensure any of them make it into the game. It has 2 new controllers, and you still need the old Wii-motes, so all in all you'll need 3+ seperate controllers near the system, just in case (some menu navigation requires a wii mote be used). On top of all that, it doesn't have any amazing first party launch titles. No Zelda\Metroid\Donkey Kong\SSB is a no sale for me.

I really just don't see who Nintendo is targetting with this system. Families? Because nothing says kid friendly like a nice big screen smack dab in the middle of a $100-150 controller, on top of the fact that the package you'll want is $350--$100 more than the Wii was at launch. On top of that, all the commercials make it out to just be some kind of tablet\controller peripheral for the Wii itself. Nintendo marketing did a great job with the Wii, but a miserable one with the Wii U. Imagine the surprise on people when they walk in and find out that neat little Wii Gadget they saw on TV is actually its own system, and will cost them at least $300.

Are they targeting "hardcore" gamers? Really? With a bunch of titles that have been out for several weeks or months on systems they already have? Why would someone pay $430 to get a Wii U and Black Ops II, when they could just pay $60 and get it on their X360? You'll have to do better than that Nintendo. Those die hard fans want Pikmin 3, or Metroid, or Zelda, or SSB. New Super Mario Bros U seems pretty disappointing compared to games like SMG and Mario 64. Basically, the only game that's going to really appeal to this audience, is ZombiU. But it's not the kind of title that can really sell a system.

I think the Wii U is going to sell great this holiday season, and quickly trail off, especially if Sony or Microsoft announce a new system at the end of the winter. If we see a PS4 or Xbox 720 announced with better hardware, better media support, and a similar price point, I think it's going to devour Nintendo's sales early on--assuming we get a launch next year around this time.

there were lines but they were short. a lot of people buying online these days.

soon as Nintendo starts acting like Microsoft with TCR and TOS developers will start complaining :p

ZombiU is awesome!

@BB I can't get use to your new avatar.. lol but I like that controller, and oddly it reminded me of an old controller.. I looked at the controller harder and was like why does this look so familiar and it hit me.. SNES CONTROLLER in disguise! (Like BB in disguise!...lol Now I have the Transformer song in my head!...lol)

yeah.. Super Famicom (Japanese Super Nintendo)

I don't like the Wii U controllers.

Sony and Microsoft put the right analog stick on the bottom but Nintendo puts it at the top. when you move your thumb to press a face button your brain is like I don't want any of that..my hand is starting to cramp. the analog sticks are tigher than Sony and on par with Microsoft but clicking the sticks is weird.

there were lines but they were short. a lot of people buying online these days.

soon as Nintendo starts acting like Microsoft with TCR and TOS developers will start complaining :p

ZombiU is awesome!

played zombiu yesterday and I cannot say its an awesome game, its a basic survival game and does not become much more than that to tell the truth and gets boring fast to me, I would give it a 6/10
