Depending on the game and nvidia's involvement, it's also to make AMD perform worse than nvidia.

I guess AMD's revenge was Dirt Showdown, thankfully that game blows.

And since when open source means it's automatically better? OpenGL is not used widely because support and tools are pretty much non existent and if you're a developer of an OpenGL based engine, you're pretty much on your own. Where DirectX (or shall we say Direct3D) has pretty good support for developers despite the fact it's proprietary standard.

LOL buddy, you forgot that almost ALL professional 3D Design/Modelling/Render/Effects software out there, including the movie industry is using OpenGL? Do you thing they rendered those effects you saw on Transformers or Star Wars using Direct3D??! haha, think again ;))

really you mean the engine built just recently runs better then the old ass source engine, amazingly predictable. Do people not notice things like DX11 WoW runs faster then DX9 WoW because WoW doesn't use crap like tessellation, the game is visually identical, just changing to DX11 code path caused a significant performance boost because DX11 is not ancient and was designed to have less overhead.

Valve isn't using latest OpenGL neither. I think they are using the equivalent to DX9 which is OpenGL 2.1.
Latest version is OpenGL 4.3.

Most of the time it is (it can also be worse, that needs to be said), this isn't really related to this thread but just look at Android, manufacturers drop support very early but the community keeps going with developing for it and even make the ROM's faster and not to mention the bugs that never got fixed by the manufacturer.
That example pretty much applies for any open source software.

Can anyone confirm that this beta fixes the lighting issues in Skyrim. I tried the previous beta, moving from 12.8, and started getting a ton of artifacting in the sky and other light sources. Since the I reverted to 12.8 again.

BTW Im on a 7800 series card.

how can it be faster than windows? i remember when hl2 came out on mac, it had missing effects

i also wonder, if they just enable the opengl renderer for windows, would performance be similar?

that was a mistake on their part, and was fixed soon after.

games can be faster than in windows, because windows is quite a resource whore.

as far as i know opengl is used for the viewport (editing) only, not for the final output rendering. does anyone know more ?

If 3D modeling tools run on OGL, that doesn't mean the output render runs on OGL...

Correct, rendering is based on OpenCL (when talking about AMD cards) and even that is quite rare.

when setting the V over the stock bios settings and resetting them later in afterburn, the V wont return to 0.9 instead it is stuck at 1V in 2D mode. Only reboot helped

Left 4 Dead on linux was already getting higher frames than windows. Now even more frames! Be interesting to see more games scale this way on linux.

Yea, but linux sucks.

Yes unfortunately this DX9 issue is still present with the 7xxx series.
Many HD7xxx series users here at TPU either have not encountered the issue with Skyrim or do not play it or any other DX9 based game which exhibits these black poly anomalies.

In fact you two are the first besides myself to have mentioned the issue here in TPU.
Here's a link to a thread which is all about the issue which is frequently updated.
And another link which has an AMD rep admit AMD knows about the problem and is apparently working on it now.
Scouring youtube, you will also find there are other people with 7800 series cards which have the same problem.

I have stayed with the 12.8s myself to minimize the amount of artifacting seen.

Big "Thank Yous" for you and pigulici.

The DX9 bug in Skyrim after updating to 12.11 was the first time I had problems with my Sapphire 7870 GE. Ever since buying it in April it was a pleasant experience all the way.

Wanted to see if there were any noticeable gains with the new drivers, but it looks like I'll be waiting for a further stable update. Right now Skyrim is practically the only title I play on a regular basis. Other games also run perfectly so I'm not desperate for the 12.11 update.

Thanks once again for the links. It's always nice to know that a company is aware of the problems users are having, and is working on fixing them.

hello, dont know if I missed something in the article, but could anyone please tell me if these drivers will improve a 6950, cheers :)

My 6950 CF setup went up from 39fps in crysis 2 benchmark fully maxed out 1920x1200 using Cat 12.8 to 61fps using 12.11 b8 :nutkick:

I can replicate this if i go back to 12.8..
