Buffalo announced availability of the WZR-D1100H/U 802.11ac WLAN router in Japan. Due to regulatory restrictions local to the country, its wireless bandwidth will cap out at 600 Mbps when routing in the 802.11ac mode. It supports the 5.00 GHz band in addition to 2.4 GHz. Its upstream and downstream Ethernet ports support 1 Gbps bandwidth. Most common security features are supported. It is priced at 25,450¥ (US $310).

5GHz band is useless if you're looking for range. So i'm not quite sure what's the point of these high speed routers apart from using them in the same room with all the wireless devices. In my case, even 1 floor difference, right over the Linksys E4200 and it barelly catching the 5GHz signal. With 2,4GHz, it's 100% signal. 1 floor and 2 rooms away, laptop only sometimes catches 5GHz network SSID but as soon as i try to connect to it it just disappears. I wonder if this 11ac makes any difefrence whatsoever to range considering it's still 5GHz like the 11n standard...

Where I live, there are so many wireless networks that there is no free airspace in the 2.4GHz band. So even if 2.4GHz does theoretically have better propagation characteristics in a pristine environment, the crowded airspace of my area means that I get better signal propagation on on the 5.8GHz band (where I have no competition for airspace) compared to the crowded 2.4GHz band. I can see this being the situation for may others as well.

would be more worth it if there were more 5G devices.... however there aren't... most phones don't.

Modern phones do; my Galaxy S III and my friend's iPhone 5 both have 5GHz support, and they are the two most popular smartphones on the market.
