New build oc/gaming

Hi there i am going to build a pc ,duh

so here it goes:

mobo: msi z77 Mpower
cpu: i5-3570k
ssd for windows:vtx3-25at3-120g ocz
RAM:8gb ddr3-1600 corsair vengeance or i think dominator's
GPU:MSI N680GTX Lightning

so any tip's or suggestion's are welcome

What PSU are you getting? What is your monitor resolution? Is that the Vertex3 you are thinking of getting? Might I suggest Crucial M4 instead.....

the psu is 700w from coolermaster,the monitor is 60hz hmm that's not gonna give me the full power of the gpu...i think and yes its the vertex3

Yes, I have the MPower. Great overclocking board and a great bang for the buck..... I would pass the dominators. I will say the Crucial Ballistic Sport series is some good ram for $40 for 8G. I also tested the Sports and although the latencies were a bit lower than GSkill tridents, they benchmarked head to head through 2133MHz. Any $ saved can get ya a larger SSD and you will thank me in the future. 256G SSD would be better.

Doesn't matter, I have SLi'ed GTX670's and they're hooked up to a Zalman ZM-M240W Passive 60Hz S3D monitor. My nephew has the Vertex 3 and he did have some issues with it, Crucial M4 on the other, I've heard good things about. I'm partial to Corsair, I have 2x Corsair ForceGT 128GB SSDs in my main and 2nd rig, while my 3rd rig has a Corsair SSD which I can't recall now. Not a big fan of Coolermaster PSU, but that 700W unit sounds like it should be sufficient......if it were a Corsair/Seasonic/Silverstone, I'd say it'd be overkill. BTW, you have still not stated your monitor res, which I'm assuming to be 1080P at least. What about the other stuff? HDDs, ODD(s), case, cooler.....the last since you had specifically mentioned OC.

the monitor is 16:10 widescreen 1680 x 1050 at 60 Hz ,case is cm storm sniper from cooler master,the hdd's are 2x 150G wd blue and 1Twd green butt those i am gonna use for data and for the cpu cooler i want to go with corsair h100i i use one ODD from plextor PX-810SA

If you don't plan on going 1080P, perhaps consider a GTX670/GTX660 Ti, with the money saved, you can perhaps consider a bigger SSD. I have the excellent Corsair H100 on my 3960X, and it is doing a righteous job cooling my OCed CPU. Btw, nothing wrong if you wish to stick with the GTX680, only means you would have ample GPU powah to up ingame setting to the max.

Yep, for 1680x1050, a GTX660 Ti or GTX670 would more than suffice. Just know that, for certain graphically intensive games like Metro 2033 and Crysis 2 (DX11 + Hi Res patches) the GTX660 Ti is going to struggle, so you may not be able to go full bore with such games. Buuuut, a vast majority of games can be maxed out, no problemo. I'd suggest the GTX670......wider Buswidth (192bit on GTX660 Ti vs 256bit on GTX670) and ROPs (24 vs 32 respectively). Check out this review, note that an OCed version of the GTX660 Ti still trails a vanilla GTX670, and in the Metro 2033 benchmark, the difference between them is striking.

But, should you decide to stick with the GTX660 Ti, nothing wrong with that, it's a damn nice card.

I just found 2x of these msi n680gtx lightning's (plus pair of asus r9 290x-dc2oc-4gd5 among many other older GPU's) from closet with water blocks installed earlier today.

Got curious, what era were these even, doubt there's any markets for these older parts but how would they perform with a bit more modern games together, say Assassins Creed Origins? Or that too much already?

I have closets full of this type of stuff actually, it doesn't feel nostalgic and impossible to get rid of too I think...

If your asking how a GTX 680 or a pair of 680 in SLI would perform with today's games, basically, it won't. The 680 will be hindered by it's lack of video RAM, same thing that ended my GTX 780tI's useful lifespan.

In the future, just open up your own thread instead of necro'ing a old dead thread.
