heres the pages with which i can buy straight away...

http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/power-supplies/718_7057_70061_xx_xx/xx-criteria.html

http://www.maplin.co.uk/buy-computing/pc-power-supplies-and-ups/pc-power-supplies

(maplin are hardly ever in stock tho)

XFX is a very good brand! Not sure why AMD would not recommend it?

For 42A on 12V rail, at least a 650W PSU should be enough. But allowing safety margin, say 750W minimum.

First preference is Seasonic (but not available at the stores listed), then XFX, then Corsair, then OCZ.

Depends on your budget which specific model is more appropriate.

In stock recommendations:

XFX 750W XXX Edition
Corsair CX750M
Corsair GS800
OCZ ZS750W

The 750 if you intend on going Crossfire in the future.
Yes XFX is considered having reputable PSUs.

Can't remember the reasoning behin a single rail PSU over a multi rail one.
Might be something about uneven loading.
Multi rail PSUs were big back around the Intel P4/Athlon 939 skt days.

less amps to play with per rail bro..

i prefer a single heavy duty rail so im not blowing rails.

i.e 60A psu as quad rail , 15A a rail.. (weak)

Are you anywhere near www.novatech.co.uk ? Much better shop with great customer service and more likely to have a quality brand in stock.

Also, go for a single rail PSU if you can. Decent brands are Seasonic, Corsair and Enermax among others.

So, did your old PSU blow up that's making this purchase so urgent?

The Corsair Gaming Series GS800

Power supply is the ideal price-performance solution for building or upgrading a Gaming PC. A single +12V rail provides up to 65A of reliable, continuous power for multi-core gaming PCs with multiple graphics cards.

Looks Good to me....(single rail)

Multi rail PSUs were big back around the Intel P4/Athlon 939 skt days.

It has everything to do with loading. With multi-rail PSUs, you have to make sure you evenly distribute the load over the different rails so you don't over load a rail. With a single rail PSU, this is not a issue as all connections have access to the full power potential of the PSU.

The bottom line is, for 99% of the folks out there single vs. multiple +12V rails is a NON ISSUE.

Thread full of single vs multi fail.

Putting that aside, the fact that a GPU manufacturer recommends "42A on 12V" refers to a typical whole system requirement. There is no single GPU that needs 504W (42*12) all by itself.
Heavily OC'd FX8150 + heavy OC HD7950 = about 500W in extreme cases. Real-world application would require less than that.

As for a recommendation, the only real choice (of the in-stock stuff), would be this XFX. There's a Seasonic M12D inside, and it's simply beautiful (electrical performance-wise).

XFX or Corsair, both seem to be good buys.

I'm running a 5+ year old Corsair PSU and it's still working fine. This thing is a tank.

Might want to stay away from Corsairs GS series, if I remember right they are considered to be some of Corsair's lowest quality units.

The Corsair cx/hx/ax series are all good quality units and you can't really go wrong with them. As for xfx those I have no experience with.

A few words from the dedicated pros about my suggestion: HS, jG, [H].
As for the others, crmaris has taken a look at them, GS800 and ZS750 right here at TPU, and the older CX750 at TheLab.gr. The newer CX750M *should* be the same design, just with a modular board added.

The XFX is in a class of it's own.

Hissing?! I'd switch off your PC immediately and unplug it from the wall in case it goes with a bang. I'm not exaggerating, they really can do that.

Personally, I say that you should get an overspecced PSU from a quality brand as that way, you'll never have to worry about your PSU. I've had my Corsair HX850W for years which has never been heavily stressed and works very well indeed. Also, I can plug in what hell I like without worrying if I'm going to overstress it.

I was part joking when I said it was hissing, only at full load! ive taken all my gfx card and that out because im still waiting on buying a psu!

im in a dilemma; decided on watts, I want modular and brand (corsair or xfx).

but the problem is now I can buy the gs800 or even the ocz750 tomorrow from store (which is needed to say the least), or I can wait pay more for the xfx 750 or wait and order the cx750m??
