Installing the newest drivers 314.07 from nvidia causes a crash right after windows shows up. Its a hangup fallowed by a reboot. Tried the GPU in my PC with windows 8 and same thing happens.

Also guy reported bits of artifacts in corners in 2D while browsing internet that come and go as he scrolls.
Its a secong GPU that dies in that PC. Last time they replaced 8800GTS for this and we decided to buy a new PSU to be on the same side. Do you folks think I should replace the board this time to be on the safe side or its just pure coincidence?
Rest of specs are :
c2d e4400,P5K Premium WIFI AP,2x1GB Kingston, OCZ 600W.

For a card that old, why did you update the driver?
They stopped supporting the 200s series a long time ago. Updating drivers only cause problems.

Just download old drivers and reinstall it.

That's not convincing to me. Newer driver should work and the GPU is not THAT OLD.
Never had a situation with Nvidia cards that would run on one driver and not on another.
Maybe some GFX issues with games but never a case of a total freeze and a reboot.

Drivers ARE not the issue. It's definitely something else. In cases like this try one part at a time. Could be ram, motherboard or anything else. PSU and drivers are out of the question though. 600w is more than enough.

The card is supported in the driver, so it's definitely not a driver issue.

It sounds like you have a faulty card, especially as you get the same thing in another PC. Time to throw it away and get another cheapie.

Whats budget card would you go for ? Guy is looking at 7750 but these are mostly 1gig cards. For me Nvidia is a bit overpriced these days and guy is negative towards nvidia after two broken cards.

Whenever you see artifacts it's a it's a hardware issue. The card has a physical fault, installing drivers or replacing other components will not help.

Your mate needs a new card.

Remove all plastic and bake it in the oven for 7 mins at 375 degrees Faren.
That solves soldering issues with the GT 2xx series. If that doesnt fix it, the card is just failing.
