I'm really enjoying this game, i've been running it at ultimate with TressFX enabled and FXAA rather than SSAA. SSAA has a massive impact on performance, and i've been monitoring it in my screenshots below - with 4xSSAA its showing VRAM usage as over 4000mb! surely this is being doubled and its really only using 2gb...otherwise this game has one hell of a memory leak lol.

heres ultimate settings with FXAA

Heres ultimate with 2xSSAA

heres ultimate with 4xSSAA

It could make the game more interesting to us, the way they might jiggle and bounce when Lara runs and hops. That, or it could could make the game unplayable since we'd be too distracted to focus on the game.....

Jesus,

Its a Tomb Raider series reboot! REBOOOOOOOT. And with that Reboot they are trying to compete with Uncharted. Obviously its not going to the same as other Tomb Raiders.

It has aspects of the other Tomb Raiders, but the way it plays out is different.

And you don't need to have a shit fit every time I casually mention my distaste for something in a game. I said earlier some of it's not bad, it's just that this new version is more eye candy than substance challenge wise, which is not to my liking. Even 100% completion is rather simple. I'm not even a completion fanatic and I've already gotten 100% on half the areas in a fairly short session. That's with none of these so called bugs mentioned, so there's that in the game's favor as far as my input earlier too. God damn Mx, talk about only noticing the negs I point out like you have to always hear smoke being blown up their butts. Give it a rest arleady.

Looks like Tomb Raider has a really bad bug! Read about it last night on a news post at OCN.

Maximum graphics show up in the game when you have it in Windowed mode.

All that will do is apply 4xssaa instead of fxaa because if u go to advanced and customise the settings, ultimate already selects all settings to max other than ssaa. For me fxaa looks fine in this game and im not seeing much if any visual improvement by selecting ssaa so im not worried aye.

If it was a bad bug it be on everyones system. Not everyones experiencing it and from the screen shots posted. It looks like the users are altering detail via Advance Tab because hes missing more then lighting in the screenshots when he posted a comparison between Fullscreen and Window Mode.

The original post was at Eidos Forums

perfect example:

The video on post #8. Laras head notice she doesnt have TressFX. Safely say there not running at Ultimate settings. Hes missing more then just flare effect like the screen shot above on post #1.
Probably driver issue if not all the effects are on and they are claiming there running it at max which they clearly arent by there screenshots and videos.

I haven't ran into it, or tried to reproduce it. Just thought it was interesting. I get the no hair on lara with TressFX on sometimes, and im pretty sure its an Nvidia driver issue.

Im more talking about the increase in lense flare, and blood splatter on the screen you get when you are hurt.

OH MY GOD!!! I have the same issue..

Ah, never mind just forgot i had settings altered.

Way too easy to replicate and it was obvious they altered the settings in Advance Tab since none of the presets disables them until you choose LOW Presets.

If you have the game you should know that.

Driver issue or User Issues. I tend to lean towards a mix given the situation the game was released in.

The only real issue I have is the QTE, Game needs to come with some SPEED for us old folks.
I have seen the hair dissapear at certain angles only. LOD issue like most games.

Having POST PROCESSING un-checked gets you the effect that video in the OCN thread on post#8 is try'n to point out between Fullscreen and Windowed Mode. Running benchmark in Ultimate with PP off gives same results. PP doesnt turn off on any of the presets unless its set to LOW.

Make sure you dont have any altered setting in Advance Tab and have nothing set to off that would cause those effects not to appear.

I ran some tests the other night starting with max settings with every optional feature turned on at 1080p, then one at a time I individually turned off or lowered from max to normal Hair, SSAO, VSync, High Precision and Tesselation.

The result was turning off Tesselation affected frame rates the most, primarily in min FPS. It shot up from 2 to 56. The next biggest impact was TressFX, and the others were pretty equal in their impact. Given the way the benchmark fluctuates dramatically when the camera swings to show the water in view, my guess is most of the tess impact is due to enhanced detail in things like ocean waves.

Currently I'm running max settings with VSync and DoF off using FXAA. My ave FPS in the bench went from 56 to 63 vs having VSync and DoF on. Min FPS is still very low, so I do see occaisional hiccups entering areas and such, but it didn't improve enough with tess off despite quite a bit higher ave FPS, so I'm leaving it like this.

I'm hopeful a patch or driver update can improve things, but given few games have as much tess detal as this, I'm reluctant to think it would make much difference. Then again continued hiccups here and there even with 144 ave FPS while experimenting with tess and those other features off might indicate something in the coding or drivers could be amiss.

Forot to say, for those of you looking to improve gameplay stability a bit, esp if you only have 6GB or less RAM like me, try setting the shortcut to launch it without desktop compostion and visual themes.
Ran the benchmark last night.

Min FPS: 22.4
Max FPS: 41.5

With those results, you might want to try turning DoF off too. DoF is odd in this game. I had assumed it only affects zoom like in most games, but you can clearly see in the benchmark that it subtly blurs eveything in the distance. Too bad they couldn't add such a feature to actually improve vs rob performance, as in games like Just Cause 2.

Finally I've finished this game. 99%, first gameplay, maximum difficulty. Maybe forgot one or two gps caches or mushrooms. I'm not even sure is it worth to come back and find them or just leave it.

The ending was cheesy and plot was cliche but there are some interesting elements - like "aha" and chimes from classic TR and dual pistols in the end. Levels are ok. Village, beach, forest and mountains were fine however there were some ridiculous and boring indoor places where level design left much to be desired. Lots of shooting and fighting in the end got boring and repetitive but I like weapons and upgrade system.

Unfortunately game had those fraking white ledges. For years TR fans complained about them but devs don't listen, meh. The lack of free climbing is disappointing. Lara can make hyper long jumps but can't jump on boulders .... invisible walls I guess

I like game's new direction. New Lara is cool. This reboot is a nice beginning, I'm glad it didn't flop. I'm sure the next TR will be great. After crappy Underworld this game is a masterpiece.

How long did it take you?

I think 40 hours or something, I like to take my time. I've revisited the camps many times to see if I missed something. Game's length is pretty good. I'd say by today's standards it's fantastic.

From what I've seen so far, in the areas Undeground was seriously lacking vs the prior games, it doesn't really improve any. In fact tomb wise it's a bit of a step down. There's just more of them and easy ones, vs a limited number of challenging ones.

About all they "added" vs Underground is trading depth in artifact recovery for action against crazy cultists. There was definitley a sign of it coming in Underground though, where all you had to do to get relics was kick open clay pots scattered about.

Agree with your comment about tomb.
I got a couple of "enter the tomb, push this, push that, jump, jump, voila, there's your reward" moments.

Sometimes when I finished the first puzzle I got excited and I thought "Hm.. what's next?", but couple of times I ended up disappointed because the first puzzle is the only puzzle in that goddamn tomb :(

The game is quite fun. I spent the 45 mins hunting deers, rabbits and birds to get my XP up lol.

The lara vision thing looks like a feature from Witcher 2 or Batman AA, plus, but there is no reason behind it (witcher amulet or detective vision or cat/thief vision behind it).

TressFX is really nice, but looks like it applies only to the pony tail and side strands of hair. I mean, when she was upside down, only the ponytail was downwards.. lol

There also seems to be an invisible barrier between her shoulders and her hair in the benchmark mode.

I think i might have solved this or not

She gets different outfits and one of them is a jacket. Might just be space into the model so they dont have to redo mesh for every one.
