Hello guys!
This week I started to push my 2500k a bit further than the old 4.2GHz OC and saw some issues with the temps, especially with the case closed.
I am stable at 4.5GHz with C states enabled and offset voltage at 1.3v under load.
With the side window removed the CPU cores bounce between 70ºC and 75ºC under IBT custom with 7GB and between 64ºC and 67ºC under prime95 Blend custom with 7GB also.
Idle temps are around 24ºC.
With the last 4.2GHz OC @ 1.216v my temps while folding were averaging 55ºC closed case and 49ºC open case. So with this new OC I fear the temps might go into the high 60s low 70s closed case, a no go scenario for me.
The closed case temps are to blame on the case and fans that are fit into it. The case is a Sharkoon T9 Black Edition and the fans are still the stock ones (one at the top back and 2 at the bottom front).
The CPU cooler is fitted with a Cooler Master R4 90CFM (which some say it's 69CFM instead, which got renamed Sickleflow).
Also to note is the front case filters that help blocking the dust from entering the case (and can be blocking airflow too).
Here is a pic of it:
(sorry for the poor quallity )
The bottom fans:
So I am looking for some advices to boost my closed case cooling performance (which I believe it starts with the fans).
I think the CPU fan is good, but recommendations are welcome!
Some research has been done in the forums and some options rise:
Noctua NF-P12-1300 - 25$
COOLER MASTER SickleFlow 120 - 10$
ARCTIC F12 PWM - 10$
The Noctua fans are WAAY too EXPENSIVE! I know they are well built and had my readings about it, but I won't be throwing 75€/100€ for 3/4 fans! At that price I should be able to pick another 6870
The most tempting option for me is the Arctic fan listed above, which has 74CFM and looks good about pressure and sound levels (mentioned by niko084)
The computer is in my bedroom so I need it as silent as possible while having a good airflow.
Sorry for the big post but just wanted to provide valuable info so you guys can give your thoughts knowing what I'm dealing with.
Thanks in advance!
