What are some good applications/utilities that would help my computer in any way. That includes speed, performance, security - anything. Even simple things that you occasionally need, for example, a video encoder or even benchmark programs...just anything :D

It's an awesome product that I use everytime I install windows. Tweaks XP's visual, security and simple registry tweaks and corrects the errors :D You will surely find 100+ errors on a default XP ;) And btw, it also tweaks internet speed, no fake! Enjoy ;)

Wow that was a great program! Works like a charm, and can change so many visuals :)

Any others guys? (looking for one to speed up windows load times...9 bars and massive lag on the welcome screen seems too long for RAID 0, with everyone telling me it'll boot up in 3 bars with RAID)

Ive tried Bootvis before....

What i noticed from it is that XP and the welcome screen loaded very fast...but once in windows, it took ages for all the programs to load up.

I timed it, before and after bootvis was about the same time.

Now, the welcome screen takes ages...its getting annoying waiting 20-30 secs for the welcome screen then another 20-30 secs for everything to fully start up.

Also, I noticed (before my RAID), that norton lagged up the welcome screen A LOT, and Trend didnt. Could the current lag be from NOD32?

Oh and i went through that 'recommended programs' thread slater....mate nice job ;)...there are a lot of nice programs there that i will be trying (altho i have already tried most of em :D)

Ive just used bootvis - its not too bad.

XP starts in the same amount of time, but the welcome screen lag (35 secs literally - i timed it!) is totally gone now :)

And programs on startup only take an extra 5 seconds or so to load up :)

Still looking for more tweaking guides/applications for XP though :D

Edit: Also, try this:

Go to start--> Run--> type in msconfig
Then click on the tab that says startup. Uncheck the boxes of anything you don't want to run at startup. This should save boot time for sure.

Ive used that tweak guide before on a previous format...didnt really help me.

Ive also disabled all un-necessary things in msconfig :)
