Hey everyone, i'm looking forward to buy a new PSU for my rig since i have a crappy case which comes with a crappy PSU and i'm about to replace them both for a slick, clean looking build. Anyway i have a 100 bucks max budget for this. Power range i need is 600-650-700-750. The product i'm looking for must have international warranty because i will be using it abroad from USA. ^^ I'm waiting for your oppinions thanks all.

P.S: The PSU is gonna power a rig with these specs:

-ASUS M5A97 MoBo
-AMD Phenom II x4 970 BE
-8 GB DDR3 RAM
-1 TB HDD
-SAPPHIRE HD 7870 GHz Edition OC

The seasonic should suit you fine just keep in mind 550watts wont be enough for most multi gpu setups.

Sure it would... :toast:

I run 4.5GHz 3570K and a 690 @ stock on a 550W PSU and barely pull 450W AT THE WALL.

Solid choice here. The OP can run his PC OVERCLOCKED on a QUALITY 430W PSU... :toast:

Yep! 100% load for a year or 2, then KAPUT! :rockout:

What you pull from the wall is 120v, in N/A anyways, don't forget that ;)

Oh, Im sorry, did he post he was a folder that runs both CPU and GPU 100% 24/7? If I missed that, please accept my apologies OP... if I didnt, ignore the 'wiseguy'... :p

The PSU was tested at 120v input and its efficiency ratings were based off that so............... not sure why it matters...do tell. :)

A platinum 550w may suffice, but i'd still opt for a 650w. Minimum.

Good PSUs don't degrade that fast, and no one runs 100% load 24/7 unless you are doing some serious crunching/folding. You are seeing good service at least until end of warranty, most likely more.

Ok. You build a rig similar to the OP based on a 430w PSU, post it here. And do a longevity/stability test. We can start a collection to fund the test, i'll chip in

Is there a 650W model of this one?

Well, you probably want a 650W PSU then.

Finding the G-650 may prove difficult. Found one at Caseking: http://www.caseking.de/shop/catalog...-80Plus-Gold-87-Netzteil-650-Watt::20491.html. None of the American shops I checked had any in stock.

Here is the 550W variant at Caseking: http://www.caseking.de/shop/catalog/Seasonic-G-550-80Plus-Gold-87-Netzteil-550-Watt::20490.html. You may be able to extrapolate how much the G-650 costs in the States.

I know $100 is your absolute limit, but you could grab a SeaSonic X Series X650 Gold ((SS-650KM Active PFC ... for $119. The unit is Gold certified, uses Seasonic's KM3 platform, and comes with a whopping seven-year warranty.

Nothing bad would happen after two years with a quality 430W PSU, absolutely nothing, everything would work just fine like how it would with a quality 550W PSU.

Will do. In the meantime, you will just have to accept my word that a friend is running a 4.5Ghz 3570K and a 670 off a 450w psu for half a year now. Ill probably start building after Haswell comes out in June.

Spot on... QUALITY PSUs as we have mentioned now a couple of times, should be able to handle their total output for the life of their warranty. That said, that system, especially at stock speeds, wont come close to the 400W available anyway.

125W CPU + 175W GPU = 300W IF THEY WERE BOTH LOADED AT 100% (in gaming its not close to that). Add another 50W for ram/hdd/mobo... We can see there is still plenty available.

Like I said, I run a 3570K @ 4.5GHz with a 690 at stock speeds and dont break 425W at the wall. 425W*.90(efficiency at that load) = ~380W actual use (doesnt matter that its 120v either as my efficiency rating was based off of 120v anyway).

A lot of people believe you need a lot more than you actually do. Then some others think there is more than a negligible difference between running a PSU in a sweetspot versus just outside of it too... its just not so if any of those people took the time to look at reputable PSU reviews like JG, [H], TPU, or my homebase either. But hey, forums run on misinformation and correcting them. I just wish that people here were trying to look for facts instead of disparaging others and trying to start fights with others...:shadedshu

EDIT: Forgot to add, I folded on that machine for a LONG while as well... with that, I hit more wattage used, around 450W.

Computer PSUs aren't about wattage, it's about AMPERAGE.

Nothing bad would happen after two years with a quality 430W PSU, absolutely nothing, everything would work just fine like how it would with a quality 550W PSU.

If this were the case there would be no need for anything over 500w/600w. Save for massive dual CPU servers with boat loads of drives and rendering cards...

Nope, don't have to accept squat! Pics/stats/vid or GTHO. I can say a lot of shit on the internet too...

Edit: Not everyone can afford Gold/Platinum rated PSUs, thats another thing to consider.

how about one of the xfx's? comes with 6 year warranty (must apply for it) looks good, and its basically a seasonic, apparently.

1. Agree... the amperage/wattage on the 12v rail is most important. For teh record, I dont mention it because most modern PSU's have the VAST majority of its rating on the 12v rail. ;)
2. That IS the case, actually. For any single CPU/GPU setup, a QUALITY 500W PSU (quality isnt defined by efficiency either note) is plenty including overclocking.
3. The efficiency rating has NOTHING to do with the power output of a PSU. If its a 90% efficient PSU with a system that is actually drawing 500W, that would mean it is taking 550W from the wall. That does NOT mean that a 500W PSU that is 90% efficient can only output 450W. It is NOT taking away from its output. :toast:

Prior the 690, I had a 680 Lightning in there overclock to 1200+/1800 on the same PSU...

If you are buying a quality unit they are almost interchangeable, given that legit companies measure the wattage off the 12v rail only.

Yes, currently there is no need for anything over 500/600w, back in the 920+480 days you will need 700+w just to juice both components o/c'ed but we are plenty efficient now.

No, I cannot produce proof. How would you know that the PSU is 400w running over 6 months if all I need to do is just to take a pic of a rig with 450w? So many ways to fudge it, so Ill take it as word not accepted. Pretty reasonable too since proof is extremely hard to make watertight.

Yes, not many people can afford good PSUs, but a Corsair 430w goes for under $40 at times I would say most people will be able to afford one. I would pay for a Corsair 430w over a no name 700w for the same price, just saying.

Spot on. Also consider (to anyone listening with an open mind) that was 125W CPU versus 65W. Previous generation GPUs were also not limited like the Nvidia 6 series and AMD 7 series with their power limits. So unless hard or bios modding is done, their power can only increase 6%(Titan) to 20% (680). With the 680 being a 195W card, 20% on top of that is what ~215W? Cadaveca has also mentioned that you cannot really break 125W 24/7 with a IB CPU either so..............The writing is on the wall. Whether or not people choose to believe the facts is up to them. :toast:
