Help me decide which card to keep. 7950/680

Guys,

I bought a HIS IceQ 7950 (i loved it, exaust cool heatsink, awesome) for 280usd
And a used evga reference 680 with bp for 350usd (reference not really my thing)

I want to keep one and sell the other here.
I can sell the 680 for 600usd here, the 7950 around 450usd.

Which one should i sell? Don't try to understand the values, just the situation.

We dont know the situation.. in your system specs you dont list a monitor...and from the looks of it is woefully outdated, please update and included a monitor. That said, assuming one 1920x1200 or less monitor, I say sell the 680 and keep the 7950. It will play anything at 1080p or less and have more bandwidth and vRAM.

What about all the nvidia technologies? Physix, FXAA, etc

I mean the situation how can you buy for 350 and sell for 600 part.

Someone in your situation with both cards in hand, you're probably the best one to answer your own question. Use them both, keep the one you like best.

You just said dont worry about the values........

Anyhoo, Do you want to use those things or even play an PhysX supported games? If so, then the Nvidia... if not, AMD.

But I think erocker has nailed it...

I thinking about which one will lose its value sooner.
Considering 700 series is closer to the 8000 series.

I can profit the most by selling the 680. And my plans were to actually get a higher end card, like say a 680 4gb DC2, but this 680 was a good deal, so i bought it.

I don't see the 680 losing it's value relative to the 7950. In your shoes, at your resolution I would keep the 680 and sell the 7950. That would be better for gaming overall.

But if you're looking at investment further down the line, sell the 680 and keep the 7950. But remember the price of the 7950 may drop closer to (or when) the 8xxx series is released end of year (ish).

IMHO, I would keep the 7950, sell the 680, and in a couple months buy a 780.

My outlook is this:

Come late May (according to rumors),

780 (GK110) will be above 7970ghz and cost a realistic amount more, unlike Titan. (<$600)
770 (680 redux) will be very similar to 7970ghz (perhaps both $400) and relative based on if you prefer a larger buffer (4GB) and physx over absolute (overclocked) performance.
7950 will continue being a better card than 670/760ti overall, granted the former larger and the 760ti clocked to look similar/better at stock while priced similarly ($300).
7890 will be a better card than 660ti and priced similarly (~$250).

Come Q4,

AMD will probably launch a part very similar to GK110 priced around 780.
They will also likely launch a card very similar to 770...like 770 is to 680....perhaps the same chip as 7890 with higher clocks and 7ghz memory to finally replace Tahiti.

Even if that hypothesis on products is not 100% accurate, the trajectory and performance levels are.

In short, the prices/value of ~$300 cards are not going to change a whole lot because of current 7950 prices relative to the performance of 670 and even future products with similar performance. That said, the current high-end will become compressed in the 200-400 area as new products replace them. It makes sense to get money from that card now before it devalues and reinvest a similar amount shortly into a card that will have longevity...be that 780, Curacao (the Q4 high-end part from AMD that we still have no idea if will be 20 or 28nm) or even waiting longer.

If I were you, I would argue 7950 is generally perfect for 1080p (and Hainan will be as well, but slightly cheaper and perhaps less absolute performance because of bandwidth). That said, high-end cards on 20nm may be enough for 4k gaming...and is where I would be looking in terms of an upgrade greater than 7950 and 1080p, if not 2560 and one notch lower on 20nm (or if you buy a 780 shortly also get a 2560 monitor).

What's more important to you? Money or GPU performance?

Only you can answer this question and honestly, it's just the difference. It's not like the 7950 is a slow GPU either.

sell nvidia, OC 7950. be happy buy second 7950, oc it too. be super happy.
