Ok, so what I want to do is lock a folder, and have some sort of a 'key' on perhaps an USB thumbdrive. I wanted to google it, but I just don't know what to search for.

The software should be able to lock the a specific folder, even if that folder is inside another folder. But if there is some sort of software that can "lock" a specific file, that would do just as good. Should have a rather good encryption.

EDIT: Found something called "Folder Lock". Anyone ever tried this one?

You can make a 7z archive using AES-256 encryption. That way you also have the added advantage of having LZMA2 to compress your data as well.

Remember to use a good password though.

I would do like Aquinus suggested and compress it and lock it using 7z or winRAR. If it's files that you don't plan to change, but if you do then use Truecrypt as others have suggested.

Any passwords that I use that consist of a single (non common) word with mixed in punctuation and capitals seem to have over 44-bits of entropy. I guess it all comes down to your word choice.

But, just to be safe, I changed some of my passwords to sentences to give me 96-bits.

Any really sensitive passwords, I use a string of random characters.
