Despite erocker saying you can tell what parts are boggy, I have to think this confirms my suspciions about not being able to. Otherwise why would people be getting stuck so often?

Yeah I'm sure the "WHOA, what happened there!?" aspect is a big part of it, like when your rig flips and all you can see is the tires sticking out of the mud as it lays on it's back, but at a certain point the player is going to want more consistency from their attempts. If the game repeatedly sets you up for disaster by terrain morphing in front of you as said, I could see how it would become more frustration than enjoyment.

You'd think there would at least be a fairly predictable way of determining solid ground, like that which is fairly smooth, has tire tracks atop it, and looks dry with no ruts. I can clearly see where some of the surface looks more loamy, but what's being described sounds like apparently solid, smooth, dry looking ground turning loamy as you drive toward it.

It's like the top of a hill is equivalent to a health pickup in a horror game, and the road turning to loam a monster spawning to make you pay for it. The old bait and trap routine

What I think would be awesome in a game like this is if there was a sophisticated weather system and storm charting element where the player would have to listen to weather reports and try and plan his run so he doesn't get caught going up difficult slopes while it's raining. It would factor in with his time of delivery, choice of routes, etc.

Nice narrative Kurgan. You can damage the truck in the Demo mode but its not easy. I lost a wheel one time. It would barely move when I got it hung up on a tree

I've been playing Off-Road Drive, and it's every bit as hard if not harder than this game looks. You actually have to stop and use a winch in a lot of places and it's sometimes quite difficult to do. Often times when going up steep rocky slopes the pull point is a tree off to the side, so the angle of the cable can make the winch pull you right to the edge of the course and make the cable snap or the vehicle bog down from scraping the bank of the road.

Then there's stream crossings that almost entirely submerge your vehicle with rocky banks you have to climb out of that mess with your approach angle unless you carefully take them at an angle. For some courses I set the ground clearance all the way up because of the obstacles, but it can play havoc with handling. It's kind of a love/hate affair. Some sections are quite fun, others quite frustrating.

BTW I saw a mod of Spintires with pavement put over the dirt roads. LOL
