Two weeks on Friday my GF and I are leaving the UK for a new life in Edmonton, Alberta - Canada.:rockout:

I haven't had a rig now for a good few months but will be looking to buy parts within the first couple of months of arriving. I'm not adverse to either AMD or Intel/Nvidia or AMD, I'm just looking for the best rig I can get for around $1500.

The rig must include everything including mouse, keyboard, monitor and OS. To summarize, I'm looking for -

1) The best online component site for Canada
2) The best components I can get for $1500 for gaming at 1920 x 1080
3) What speeds can you get internet wise in Edmonton? And who is a good company to go with? (Hoping someone lives there :) )

I would personally recommend NCIX.CA.

They have allot of inventory and also they price match almost anything which can save you allot of cash.

I can't give you any good company's to go with sadly for internet in Edmonton. however i like Shaw in Winnipeg.

directcanada.com has some of the best prices available (for both product and shipping), and any order over 300$ gets free air shipping (quite fast: vancouver to montreal in one day!). First place i check if i need something!

Ncix.ca, newegg.ca, and memoryexpress.com are also worth checking, sometimes their bundles are great

For internet, i cannot tell, i live in quebec city, and here "bell fibe" is the way to go for speed.

Component wise, well these days a 500-600$ tower can max many games at 1080p, so 1500$ MAY be a little overkill...

1) NCIX, Memory Express, BCOM, Canada Computers

2)varies on what you want to build.

3) I use Telus, had Shaw, hated it, was always down, not working, slow, TELUS, I get EXACTLY what I pay for. I get internet(19 down, 1 up), TV(PVR rental + another 2 boxes and additional channels) and home phone for a wee bit over $100 a month.

When you come to Edmonton, send me a PM. We'll hook up and have a drink, my treat. ;) Need to find something, local or anything, please do hit me up. Need PC parts? visit my livingroom.

Thanks Dave :toast: Didn't realize you were in Edmonton, we've never been but my GF has secured a job for two years and if all goes well it may very well be a permanent move. I'm on an open work permit so it may be time to reinvent myself and see what I can do over there. :pimp:

I'll be looking to build a rig purely for 1080p gaming, nothing too excessive.....I'll just visit your gaff to witness OTT builds :rockout:

A boozy Cadaveca tour of Edmonton would be legendary :D

Well what do you want CPU/Mobo wise. Thats always the starting point, AMD or Intel. I decide on those first then flesh out the rest of the system accordingly, tho im not much of a system builder but have learned quite a bit from the good members here at TPU.

I can say to go with an IPS or PLS screen though, there are some great deals on IPS at Can Computers every month.

Yeah it's still considered part of the Commonwealth. Makes it much easier to immigrate to the UK as well.

I have the zalman and although I love my rig to bits, I definitely wouldn't buy this case again! unless I was asked for modding purposes lol!

flaws are external usb3 connectors for front panel, too compact, 300mm spacing for gfx, large psu's extend over bottom fan area, not great airflow unless modded, mountings (HDD etc) aren't great and its a pain in the arse to work with!

I built 2 computers with Z9 cases (same internal as the Z11) and I didn't find them too compact or bad ventilated, IMO the only downside is the external usb3...

I do play guitar  Thanks for the ideas on parts so far guys, I'm probably leaning towards slightly more powerful GFX card and an AMD CPU at the moment, but keep em coming.

Ncix.ca does pricematching. There are 2 Memory Express stores in Edmonton. Dazmode in Ontario has a moderate selection of watercooling stuff.
I use Shopbot.ca & pricebat.ca to shop around for the lowest prices then match them at NCIX. I haven't had any pricematches rejected in over 6 years.

I currently run both AMD and Intel systems, I would vote with going with a slightly weaker AMD platform, and sink the difference into a stronk video card.
