Hi guys!

I need your help... I'm about to order, today, my new update and i need your help to chose between some parts...

I currently have a i7 930, Asus P6T, 6 gig Kingston HyperX, Corsair H50 cooler, SSD Crucial 120 gig SSD2 in a Corsair HAF 932.

My wife's pc is dead and need to upgrade her's so I will give her my Board, CPU, Memory, Cooler, SSD and put it in her Antec One hundred case and will keep my HAF932.

Here is what I'm planning to buy, Some parts im sure i'm buying, some other, I still hesitate between a few models. Please provide me with your choices explaining WHY you would go with that model... Also provide suggestions/recommandations for other models, again saying WHY!

I have an overall budget of 1,000$ CANADIAN (or US its same) +/- 100$.

So far, the kit I made myself would cost me 1050$ tax and shipping included.

- Memory will be Kingston HyperX Black KHX16C10B1BK2/16X for 120$

- Cooler will be Corsair Hydro Series H100i for 110$

- SSD, Not sure between Samsung 840 PRO 128 gig or the Normal 250 gig (not PRO) -- should i go for more space or speed ?

- CPU, Not sure between those 3: i7 3770K (my 1st choice), i7 2600K or i5 3570K

- MothrBoard, Not sure between those 4 models: ASUS P77Z-M PRO, GIGABYTE Z77X-UD3H, MSI Z77A-GD55 or the ASUS P77Z-V PRO.
Not sure I would benefit from the ASUS Maximus V FORMULA which is like double price of the others...

I'm a casual gamer, not playing huge games, my main game is Lineage 2 so don't need that much for it, but im running like 5-6-7 instances of the client on my PC, so i still need something good.

Some video (de)encoding, using winrar a lot, some Photoshop and thats about it.

Planning to OC to about 4.5 stable.

Thx a lot for reading me and sharing your thoughts, suggestions and everything!

regards,
BUGZ

Haswell will be out real soon. are you sure you can't wait? With the new gen you will futureproof yourself somewhat more.
But if you must buy now. . .

I'm not sure about Canadian retailers.

Newegg (US) has a discount on the Coolermaster AIO's They are a great deal at the moment and work as well, if not better, than the Corsair units.

I'd go for the non-pro. You really won;t notice the performance difference unless you are doing video editing or lots of photoshop type stuff.

+1 for the 3770K

You might want to look at Asrock boards, they are solid and cheaper (usually) than their competitors.

What about video card?

for the heatsink, why the 100i? You can get the Cooler Master TPC 812 for $70 compared to the 100i for $110. The TPC 812 is preffered over the 100i by TPU's own motherboard reviewer cadaveca-

of that list, for me, TPC812 is best.

Which is odd, because you'd think the H100i and other AIO watercoolers would be better than this coolermaster...but they aren't with my chips.

I did test on multiple sockets and with multiple chips, too. The TPC812 is just a great cooler for me.

As for CPU, if you plan on OC'ing, and you can get it for $40 or more less than the 3770k, I'd recommend the 2600k. It's thermal transfer is better than the 3770k, meaning it will generally OC better because of temps. The 3770k is only 10% or so faster than the 2600k clock for clock, so if you get a higher OC, the 2600k will be just as fast or faster.

SSD- Personally, after having some experience with SSDs of different speeds, I'd go for capacity myself. The difference in speed between the two SSDs in real life will probably be unnoticeable.

Motherboard- I'd go for the MSI board. I have been nothing but very happy with my Z68A-GD80.

I have to ask, what video cards are you running in the rigs?

Thx for your input guys !

Video card, im running an old ASUS EAH 5770. It's more than enough for the games im playing: lineage 2, NHL and Tiger woods... Not really planning in trying new games any soon...

As far as memory goes, which would you recommend?

8 gig, 16 gig or 32 ?

1600, 1866 or more ?

I'm mostly playaing Lineage 2 and having 5-6-7-8 clients opened at same time...

Thx !

8 gig is plenty. And that's doing thing like having my 2600k run at 100% full load running WCG/Bionic crunching and playing Borderlands2 at the same time.

If it's close in price, get 1866, otherwise get 1600.

Video card- dang, a 5770 is going to bottleneck that system massively, but if your happy..... I do suggest keeping a eye out for a special deal to come along. I constantly keep a eye on my local craigslist. Just this week, I picked up a pair of HD7770 cards for $150.

Hummm That big and ugly air cooler would realy be better than the H100i or H110 ?

I have to admit that i like the look of the H100i with the led...

I currently have a Corsair h50 on my i7 930 and like it... never tried Air cooler for OC...

I'll give it a thought and try read some reviews...

Thx mate !

Question about memory for my final choice. I hesitate between this:

2 KITS OF KHX18C9T2K2/8X, about 80$ each kit, Kingston HyperX predator 1866, CL9

or

1 KIT OF KHX16C10B1BK2/16X, 120$, Kingston HyperX Black 1600, CL10

Thx again for your comments !!!

If your happy with the 5770 for now, don't worry about it. Like I said, just keep a eye out for a really good deal.

Agreed, I'd go for the 1866 cl9 RAM.

I have this exact SSD in my system.

It has the screw holes in the bottom. The drive bays in your case should be ready for SSD drives. But I'm 100% certain about your case? but, it should.

Not sure about the Samsung SSD, but my OCZ SSD fits and mounts the same as my Seagate 7200.12 HD in my Lian Li's HD bays.

There should be four little screw holes for the SSD in the bottom of the drive bays :)

840 Pro is good if you can survive with 128GB, Mushkin is fine too.
