Which of these coolers are better? I'm going to use it to OC my Phenom II x4 970 to 4.2-4.4 GHz. Would both of these be enough?

X model is the same price and they say it's fan is upgraded? Why not to go with Hyper 212x?

X Model is a crap version of what the old version used to be. They took a cooler design and made it worse by using a cheaper method.
Hyper 212 Evo is just plain excellent value for money.
Or buy the older version of the X Model, though I doubt it will fit.

I prefer Thermalright coolers

The 212 evo direct touch looks efficient though.

Venomous X with a good fan, or a pair, is a beast HSF! Can be a bit noisy though...

Either would suffice TBH :toast:

I have the EVO. There's nothing better you can get for the money. Stock fans usually suck, so I replaced the one supplied with it with one of the new Noctua ones.

have to agree with everyone else, Hyper 212 is the cats meow for budget orientated wallets. I slapped an extra fan on mine (will be purchasing 2 matching fans at some point) and my 3570K @ 4.2ghz idles at 38C and doesnt go over 62C full load on WCG.

Venomous X RT is quite a bit better than the 212, so get it if price are the same. Otherwise get the 212

Thats like double my budget. Well unforunateĹźy for me, hyper 212 evo is out of stock. I'm going for hyper 212x. Will replace the fans with 2 noctua's in the future instead of changing the cooler. Sounds good eh? :)

It's just awesomeness when the situation forces you to make a decision. I'd go with the X anyway after reading the above.

The 212 is nice but the mounting system really sucks. Both of the two I have installed were able to freely wiggle and rotate even if its clamped as tight as it gets.

They do rotate just be careful not to turn it. But i think its a great mounting system. Quality all the way. I hate plastic back plates most coolers have

They would rotate anyway, even if you were able to apply much more force (which I'd love to be able to do, btw!). Luckily it's only by like 2 milimeters, which is not much. You can't physically "overrotate" the thing anyway, because there's a pin sticking out of the base. Guess it's clumsy user safety measure :D

The ram in the first slot will keep it from rotating if its tall

On my old home PC with a Q8400 @ 3.6GHz, I remember using the Xigmatek Loki which was really nice considering its price. Unfortunately, even though I knew the Hyper 212 Evo was outperforming it, I couldn't find it in any Greek store back then :/

So i ordered 212X, installed it today. OC'ed my Phenom II x4 970 to 4.0 GHz, 1 hour prime 95 and max temp was 58 degrees. This cooler is so good. Would reccomend it to all... I made a push-pull config with a spare xilence red led fan. Both of them running at 1000 RPM, idle temperatures are 45-46 degrees right now. OC'ed ofcourse.

Benchmark Scores 2cm mark on bench with a razor blade.
I would expect this cooler to be more or less the same performance as the Hyper 212+ & EVO with very marginal difference.
It's the same thing with minor tweaks here and there to make it a new product because people demand new and 'improved' which comes in the form of marketing gimmicks.
