Has any one had any problems with ATI cards with this board or the h67 chipset or sandy bridge processors? I got an asrock h67m board that works with every card apart from my hd5970 has anyone had similar problems?

Hi

*Maybe this; bios up to date on the Asus P8H67-M Motherboard Rev 3.0 [Version 3802; Fixed onboard & add-on VGA card compatibility issue & Support new CPUs.
Source - http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8H67M/#support_Download_30

PCIe blades are clean on the vga card
PSU is up to scratch
6&8 pin power connectors seating securely
Mobo CMOS is reset
Running no over clocks
PC powers up with mininmal hardware; one stick of RAM, CPU & heatsink, PSU and vga card
Fan spinning on vga card when installed to the Asus P8H67-M

atb (all the best)

Il give it a shot cheers

I tried updating the asrock board bios and it didn't help so hopefully it will fix the asus board.

I have cleaned the connector
Checked the power supply connectors with my 9800gx2 that also uses 6+8 pin
Board is set to bios defaults
1 stick of ram
Fan spins up then slows down like it normally would
I even tried it in my pcie 16x to 1x adapter in a x1 slot and still the same results but the same adapter works with both the 9800gx2 and hd4850.

ok updated the bios and still nothing. put the hd5970 back in the old amd motherboard just to make sure it was actually working and it boots first time. so i know the hd5970 works, the Asrock board works and the Asus board works :S the only other thing i could think of is that its the processor. the sandybridge processors integrated PCIE controllers right into the die on the cpu so it might be that thats at fault? either than or it doesnt reconise the pcie bridge on the hd5970. next thing i am going to do is pick up a cheap celeron to see if that makes a difference.

Hi

double checked the mobo bios has iGPU disabled and PCIe x16 slot enabled as primary boot device; don't mean to teach you how to suck eggs: but this is very odd

are able to try a stick of RAM from the AMD mobo in combination with the HD 5970 installed to the Asus P8H67-M

I will be interested to see how that celeron get's on

best of luck

ok now this is getting wierd.....

i just got a pc returned to me that i built for a customer (phenom 965BE, ASUS M880TD-evo, HD7850 2Gb).worked for a few days then one morning no picture on the screen, so i take his card out and try the hd5970, 9800gx2 and hd4850 and they all work so i try the 7850 in my h67 asus board and its working fine so i put the 7850 back into the m880TD and nothing.

so now i have ASUS AND Asrock h67 boards that will work with every card apart from a HD5970 and an Asus 880G board that works with everything apart from a HD7850 :banghead:

Apart from reseating the CPU, checking for bent pin's, ensuring the heatsink is not over tight and checking with a reinstall of windows; this is truly wierd

apparently the h67 chipset doesnt support crossfire do you think that would include the hd5970? i know its a single board but still 2 chips in a crossfire configuration. but i thought that would just show up as 2 independent graphics cards?

agreed

That's a little quirky if you ask me, as I was under the impression that the crossfire element of the HD 5970 was handeled by the PLX PCIe bridge chip which is why these cards ran on non-crossfire systems in single card configuration; including motherboards intended for SLi

Is the mobo this? - http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8H67M/ Revision 3
States that it supports quad crossfire:confused:

Only other reason one of these card may not function as intended is if there is a lack of AMP's on the 12volt rail, or possible bios compatibility, may be worth sending Asus Tech an e-mail and asking what's what.

Ah it does support crossfire hmm.
Yea the 5970 should work on any board I have ran it on amd intel and nvidia chipsets but it just doesn't like the h67. I'm very close to just putting the i5 and Asus board in my server and getting another amd board to use in my pc with the hd5970 and the 1155t from my server because I simply cannot afford to keep buying board and hoping they work.

I know this sucks but it maybe time to sell it while its still worth some money and get a 770 or 7970

its not that easy. i also water cool the 5970 so i would need to get a new card and water block. the problem is there is so few reference design 7950/7970's

I had some thing like this and it was due to the case very slightly moving the card upwards when screwed in although it only bothered my 7800GT\2900XT. Like if the PCB of one card moved the pins on the slot.

Although if it was some thing like that could you not use that circuit paint ?. But i don't know if it be safe to use and how much amps\wattage that stuff can take.

EDIT: Thinking about it maybe it is not that if it failed with a adapter.

Yea I thought It as something like that also but I made a point of trying the adapter with the graphics card outside the case and still the same even
Plugging it into a 1x slot.

Ok it has pissed me off to the point of giving up trying to get any h67 board to work with my hd5970 so plan B it is.

1. I have removed the msi 890fxa-gd70 and 1155t from my server and replaced it with the i5 and asus board (it has 2x pcie16x slots ideal for my sas raid cards and supports pci passthrough).

2. Then I'm putting the 1055t into the asus m880td am3 board that wont work with the hd7850 but works with my hd5970 for my gaming PC.

3. Then I'm putting the msi board into the computer I sold that was having issues with the hd7850.

4. Sell the spare asrock h67 board.

What was supposed to be a quick upgrade has turned into a fucking disaster.
