Push/Pull and The Corsair H100

They had the H100 on sale at my local store for 60 bucks so I said wth and grabbed one for my 3570K

Temps at idle are decent really, I was rather surprised to see 33c at 1.25vcore. Problem is underload I'm hitting 85c and that's getting up there.
Would a push/pull be worth the hassle/investment?

I know tons have done it, how much of a impact did it make. I was going custom loop but if this little H100 can get me to 47/4800MHz I will keep it and invest my money on a new case.

Right now I'm using the Stock Corsair Fans and plan to add some Vantec Stealth 120mm, they have a max rpm of 1500 but I'm ok with that.

Once they arrive all of them will be switched out for some AP120's

On the smaller models, push/pull setups are common, so I would imagine it works as well on the larger ones. I don't have a H100 to test myself though.

Make sure you have Tim applied properly, your temps seem high. Push/Pull certainly won't hurt.

I have a H100 with 2 x 120 and 2 x 200 in push pull. Regardless of that, you should not be hitting temps like that on a H100 AT ALL. I hit 73 when fully loaded with Prime95 at 1.32vcore

With a 13 C difference, couldn't climate also be an issue? I know that when it is hot over here, I get massively higher temps than I would in the UK.

Thanks. I don't know how big a difference it could make. But, I take most review numbers with a pinch of salt as I assume they are in a nicely air-conditioned room or somewhere around STP. I get pretty bad temp numbers when running benchmarks

I push 90 C sometimes, when using intel burn test

There's a difference jumping to push/pull config. My FX-6300 ramps to 61c at full load ( IBT w/o AVX ) @ 1.54v. Added 2 Corsair SP120 High Perf. Ed and my temp stays at 57c ( IBT w/ AVX ) at 1.51v. It may not be the same with your case though as you're using a different cpu. And also mine's an H100i.

I've had 1.36v on an i7 930 4ghz with the H100 and stock fans and it could reach up to 83c.
I then upgraded to a better thermal paste (IC Diamond) and 4x Corsair SP120 fans at 1200prm (7v adaptor on the high speed fans) and my temps got to 71c max. I was using the Corsair 800D case.
Now I have a custom water loop and I get up to 73c max though it is dead silent, unlike before. I managed to reduce the voltage a little bit now and I am getting 71c on the custom loop too.

A couple other things to consider are you venting in or out? Always vent out. The CPU socket area is now lacking airflow because the H/S and fan are gone. I have the TT water 2.0 extreme in a pull only( easier for cleaning) config with the corsair fans mentioned by sempron guy but this does need a good supply of air to cool properly.

Lastly get the SP not AF series of Corsair fans, the SP do better in moving air through radiators and heatsinks, and the AF are more for airflow through cases.

What is ambient temp? A 50c idle/load delta is kinda high... Push/pull wont net more than 5c in best case... Maybe even less, check martinsliquidlab.com for testing. At least i'm pretty sure he compiled a bunch of data on push, pull & push/pull

Also, just to clarify, even if the SP120 are 3-pin fans changing the settings from 1 to 3 WILL change the speed of your fans. I recommend that you you only setting 1 if you buy the SP120 because they are much less noisy at this setting and the temp difference is up to 3c.

Thanks for the suggestions, it appears my mount or tim was bad, reapplied and temps are much better, idles down a few c and load is 63C running Prime.

Whats the general opinion for 24/7 vcore 1.35 or 1.40?

Looking to max out this 3570K and currently stable at 4.6GHz with 1.25 set in bios.

yes..
push pull is better by 5-10 degrees.

the pull basically makes it more efficient by forcing the hot air into the 113CFM panaflow at the back.

Just a thought if your temps are good now. Cleaning the rad is much simpler in a pull only setup. Otherwise you need to pull a set of fans off every time you clean. Up to you

You will have 3 profiles to choose from and each profile will have a range of fan rpm which is relative to the system load/CPU temp. Since that you'll be running push/pull config, noise is probably one aspect you might want to consider. It might get louder on the Performance profile considering that you have 4 fans running at a higher range rpm, which is between 2200rpm to 2700rpm. I'd suggest that you keep an eye on your CPU temp while the system is under load then pay attention to your fan noise and decide up to how much noise level you can tolerate, then you can select the profile you suits you.

What speed do you run your fans at?

speed isnt the factor. the importance is how much air each moves. the xtraflow one moves more than the nzxt on. but the nzxt is in pull in mine, so its all cool. sometimes a negative pressure makes more wind noise.
