So, I accidentally whacked off my cpu cooler in an attempt to vac the cat hair and dust out of it... again. Really annoyed by the hassle of it all. It's a really tight case (Storm Scout), not a lot of room to fit big coolers. Maybe I could get away with taking the top fan out of the case for more clearance? Anybody tried that? Can you guys suggest some 775 socket CPU coolers that will fit in a storm scout case (without heavy modding) and that are much freaking easier (than the intel standard model) to get the fan off of to vac the heatsink off? Something nice and open and easy to vac/dust with the fan on it? Something open like the Zalman CNPS9900Max would be SO much easier to clean the cat hair off of, IF it would FIT in this case. Something like that but smaller? Or perhaps there is some quick-release way to attach the fans on some other model cooler that I am just not aware of that wont wiggle the whole thing off the CPU and need to be re-greased every single time? I don't overclock or anything, so it need not be super-efficient, just... easier to clean. Please. And preferably quiet-ish, as it's about 2 feet away at head level. :banghead:

Maybe, ugh, link me to easy to add/clean filters for the case or something too? I dunno, toss me ideas. Currently it is running fine at 53C with no thermal compound (I suspect it's dried up under there like it was last time, I just clamped the clamps back down - lazy), but really not wanting to press my luck too long... or keep re-doing it over and over. If I have to take it off and regrease it, I might as well upgrade it to something easier to clean at the same time.

Crappy little file server case can fit one in, and the fans are clip off.

but its a proper pain in the case to get the actual cooler out. and you cant take fans out if you have tight vrm sinks.

but better if you have a 6" PH2 screwdriver

Thank you! I was actually looking at that very one wondering how hard it was to remove the fan. So it's easy to unclip? Is that a fan casing? You can use any fan with it?

This is a possible problem. Guess I just need to buy it and see. it's on a Gigabyte Ultra Durable 3 EP43-UD3L, and the spacing is very close.

Hopefully it will have enough clearance over it.

i think the first two ram slots will be blocked by the fan.

this is my board and the fan on the ram slots side is less than 1mm away from the first slot.

Fans can clip on and unclip in seconds, super easy to remove and fit onto the clips. I bought a random second fan and the clips screw onto any standard 120mm square frame fan.
Here's a Hyper 212 in my file server's tiny K1 midi case, and it fits well:

Humm, how tall are your ram strips off the board at the highest point? It looks like they just barely clear under that one side? I now, seeing it, worry that I wont be able to access the top case fan or the top side of the cooler in this case. UGH, I just need a bigger case. Or less furry cats. I could maybe shave the cat easier.

I don't know if I can attach this because of the file size and I'm not going to upload it to my facebook to link it, because it's ugly as hell. But see how close that top fan is in this case?

A button I am apparently too stupid to see. Thanks, however.

(edit) .. oh I see, it doesn't show til after I am logged in. I only log in to post responses, that is why I didn't see it before.
