well if the game is going to be the next 'but can it run crysis' then i won't bother playing it because i won't have the expensive hardware. if a space sim like EVE can look very nice and play max settings using a mediocre graphics card then there is no reason why this game can't do the same.

There's no point in even discussing it until around launch time in 2015. Optimizations are just about the last thing they do. One can always turn down the settings if need be.

It's been in development for 2 years already and all we have to show is a hangar with static ships

They reached their funding goal in November of 2012. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cig/star-citizen

and in the kickstarter page it mentions a timeline for alpha release etc.
So far, they are on schedule.

They have kept the community up-to-date with their constant communication.

this is partially correct, the game is not entirely crowd funded
Chirs and a few other sources pitched in to get it started
at 22 million it will be completely crowd funded
there is no publisher though which is great

I am comparing graphics, not gameplay. I know this game isn't trying to be EVE. I am also not begruding the game for being power hungry. I am simply stating that I won't be playing it if it truly requires more than gtx 580s in SLI like the other forum member pointed out. regardless, please don't tell me not to play a game simply because i give an opinion.

Just to be clear this game is being made by Chris Roberts. If you don't know who that is I feel sorry for you.....almost as much as you have to use a 9mm.......but not quite.

hrm, well it will come down to how much time i have and what the tech specs for it are. I guess if the game isn't even on the radar until 2015 I will have more time to plan out a desktop upgrade. also by then, my kids will be a tad older so i can game in the evening.

well i am looking forward to have more time play in the future and a larger budget. we will see how this games development progresses over the next two years. it may be the perfect game to get back into PC gaming.

If your system specs are up to date, you will have no problems playing the "alpha modules" that are coming out. I could show you some videos with the difference between low settings and very high settings. The difference is really minimal. Most folks most likely won't buy this game until it's released anyways, no biggie.

But yeah, this game will most likely be the next "Crysis". The developer has said it himself that he likes to push the crap out of hardware... and he's done it in the past with his previous games. Also, I'm going to have plenty of ships to loan out, multi-person ships with turrets and things like that. I actually just applied for a job with the company as well.

As an added bonus I'm pretty sure nVIDIA and ATI will both their next line of GPUs out by the time the game is released so push away CIG .

those were the days, man. no kids, i worked part time and was finishing grad school. i could stay up late and game and not have to worry about responsibilities.

i do look forward though to when my kids are old enough to start gaming. then we will form our own little group and start knifing everyone online!
