Saw on you tube they have been removing heat spreader on cpu's. replacing paste under the plate. It seems like a good idea for a cooler chip, just wondering if anyone has tried it for a 2500k, or is that heat spreader soldered on. Then if thats the case there's no point, solder is probably the best way to go.

On the 2500k they are indeed soldered on so you won't be able to remove it.

you kill your chip. 2500k is soldered. Ivy and Haswell are TIM.

Thats what heard, but on the Haswell, they showed a serious temp change. Huge improvment. I guess for my chip it would have to be heated, figure the solder is better than most pastes anyways.
Does anyone recommend a upgrade to 3570k for the pci-e 3.0, or is it better to keep 2500k. It looked like 3750 was a little smooth runner, but the 2500k was made for higher clocks.
I'll have it on water so heat isn't a issue
Does the integrated gpu make much of a difference, I will probably be running higher end gpu's, and wondering if the Igpu 4000 make the chip worth getting.
Saw there coming out with the x99 intel 8 core, but x99 sounds like a entirely different LGA chip socket. Dont know if they will upgrade the other chips after that, I would at least like to see a 6 core 1156, that would be prime.
Is 22nm a much better structure than 32nm, I was guessing the smaller, the easier it burns.

I have;and it was OK..until I tried to lap the ramped die.
It wasn't really OK ..temps were not good.
It functioned until I tried to lap the die, though
I delidded 3570k/Haswell..I got better results tempwise with Haswell.

yea the die looked gpu shiney. Yea it probably gets pretty sensitive under there. Did you try it liquid or on air. I think You overheated it if you doing air, lapping probably expels alot of heat.

YOu can lap that heatsink. Lapping when done right will give you a good result.

this sounds funny, I'm too lazy to lap the sync, But I'm willing to remove heat sync, and re-apply new thermal compound. I guess the guy in the video showed like a 10° 15° cel. temp. diffrence. Yea might get 5° max difference from lapping.

might be worth buying better cooling or if you really want low temps then a little water chiller.

i thought we came to the conclusion that the IHS is soldered on and not removeable. you can remove that without damaging the chip.

lapping is a lot easier than removing ihs. takes around half an hour, and no risks involved.

edit that quick DDD ^^ :D

yea theres no risk in lapping apart from bending pins or making the contact worse....

yea 5° yea, solder Ihs I guess a torch would do it. butane or small propane. get the solder hot enough to separate. just didnt know if I could make it the 15° colder then it seems worth while. Yea melting the solder that seems risky too, you dont want to melt more than solder holding the IHS.

did I just read that right ^^^

if youre willing to cook (and melt) your chip, pay for another one.

then why the hell aren't you investing in better cooling???????

(and btw when your cooling is pretty damn good, 5*c is a lot!)

this is just one of those pointless threads / troll.

he probably will end up doing nothing, but hes just testing the waters.

Testing the waters, Yes
trolling No. I currently do get 28° or so depending on the day at 4.8 ghz heat necessarily isn'ta issue. Unless it's 15° thats alot of temp. At 28°, 5 degree's isnt much. ambient temp is ambient temp don't feel like dealing with condensation. Not that Lapping would lead to that. The fact of the matter is keeping all cores at same temp. There is a issue. Or in fact verifying your IHS is in complete contact with your sink, or sync. Or do just to do it for something new and fun, tripping out on how it works. I guess could separate the IHS and chip just to drive the PC macho Nerds crazy. In short entertainment.

Will intel warranty my chip if I separate the IHS with a cutting torch, might have to call and ask. Give customer service a call and see. Tell them I can send the chip in, its just a little black around the edges. don't mind the slag, it helps conduct heat, its ok. Yea I threw it in a bucket of water, when it caught on fire. What do they want from a guy, text book operation here.
