Looking for a gaming rig that will play the newer Frostbite 3 games including the ones that will be coming out in the near future like SW Battlefront) at high or highest settings on a 1080p projector.

8Gb ram, 1866 preferred but no lower than 1600
770/7970Ghz, ram doesn't really matter at 1080p but BF4 recommends 3Gb (BF4 players confirm?)
250Gb SSD (Samsung 840 preferred, any variety)
600w PSU
CM212+ for 3570K, consider U14S for 4670K or one of the closed loops
Case of choice - start with NZXT source 210 or Corsair 300R and work your way around.

770/7970Ghz, ram doesn't really matter at 1080p

Only games I know that can profit from more than 2 GB VRAM at certain conditions are:

Bioshock Infinite @ultra
Call of Pripyat also only when maxed out + mods + AA
Skyrim, Hi Res texture pack + 8X MSAA + mesh mods + other mods
max payne 3 maxed + 8x MSAA
Crysis 3 maxed + decent levels of non-post-processing AA

can't think of anything else ...

oh and new BF4 with enough MSAA for sure ...

With some of the new games, i'm sure that we with 2 GB VRAM will be lowering our texture setting from ultra to high

Are there any rigs out there that *can* run BF4 on ultra settings at 1440P, and do it without a hitch? If so, how much would I be looking to spend to do that?

imo picking out your own parts is more fun but i'll give you a general sense of direction:

cpu: haswell i5 unlocked processor

cpu cooler: hyper 212 series if you plan little to none overclock, higher tier air cooler for a bigger overclock

ram: 8gb ddr3 ram

mobo: any highly rated z87 motherboard

video card: whatever money you have left over all goes here

boot hard drive: at least a 64gb solid state drive

storage hard drive: 1-2tb mechanical hard drive

psu: haswell compatible, 500-600 watts

case: this is really your personal choice, any ATX case is fine

OS: if you have a .edu email address, microsoft has discounts for OS or you can handle it yourself


as far as brands, manufacturers go.... its best you learn about different ones as each company are really great in certain departments

I'm currently running Beta on "ultra" @ 1440p "without a hitch". Not really sure if its like BF3 beta though where you truly don't run ultra, even though the settings say you can.

Is this build just a joke build or?? I ask because you have a processor from NCIX, but the motherboard from Microcenter?....then you ran an "extremely powerful" 7870 in that mix, when like $20 more gets you a 7950B?

I would spend the extra $ for a 7950, 7970, or 280X that's in stock.

I would go Ivy Bridge CPU instead of Haswell for overclocking potential and futureproofing in that respect, plus you can pick up some good deals on motherboards. Other advice dont play cheap on the RAM.
