Genuinely confused. I don't see how this will take on the 290X in performance terms. I think it'll be sold on a energy and audibility ticket.

Me too. The performance difference between a 780 and a Titan IS NON EXISTANT. How will putting anything in the middle make any sense at all? It literally makes no sense. There is no gap to fill between the 780 and the Titan. If this 780Ti is actually a fully enabled GK110 chip, but with a retarded name, then I might understand. But an almost-titan-but-not-quite chip already exists. It's called the 780.

Do you think that 290X is the best thing since sliced bread as AMD's marketing is trying to convince us during these last weeks? I suspect that when the dust settles over the reviews the consensus will be that it's performance is reasonably better than the 780 in games where the 7970GE was close and just a few frames faster, if any, in other games while running hot, loud and using a fair amount of power. At 1080p I even expect to loose some benchmarks against the 780. Of course I might be wrong but from all we have seen, even AMD was promoting other things as sale points than actual performance at common resolutions, such as Mantle, True Audio and gaming at 4K with 20FPS. Price is the key element here to make or break the 290X.

The imminent hard launch of the 780Ti in just a few weeks time after the 290X will be available will certainly put some pressure on the pricing policy of AMD. I don't know what GK will be in the 780Ti but I'm pretty sure it will be faster than the 290X. Not by much, but enough to restore the imagine of Nvidia as a leading brand. Price will be set accordingly.

if this isnt mearly a clock bumped 780 ill be surprised , typical good timing by nvidia, they are getting to be like clockwork with there spoiler pr bs.

no details just enough bull to keep hold of the fanboi's and to arm them for the bull trollling these next few weeks.

i also like FLEX physx , physx but better, except as far as ive seen its just physx and apex physx in one ,ie a bit shit.

So I was right, GTX 780 plus 192 CUDAs.

:)

Still disappointed as I'd have loved to see a 2880 enabled GK110.

Gotta love Nvidia salvaging every bit it can.

That is not an answer to the 290x. Needs way more oomph.

what I find interesting is the GTX780 and Titan came out months ago and yet even with parts of them disabled, low clocks and relatively low power consumption, they can still match all that AMD can put into a GPU which is clocked so hard it runs at 95C and chews through power like it's free.
All Nvidia need to do is enable a few more cores and/or increase clocks and the 780/Titan will pull ahead again, and that's with old Tech! I think that's pretty good going. If they cost too much for what they offer, then don't buy them, buy AMD instead. But people are buying Nvidia, despite the premium price, in fact a majority are, there must be a reason for that.

ps, I have AMD HD7950 crossfire, previously GTX680, so not a fan of either.

I suppose it could be because these will be open to customization. It doesn't take much of a bump for for a 780 to blast past a Titan. But even if the Ti exceeds the Titan at stock $650 is the wrong price even if they win in power, heat, etc... because as long as the FPS is similar the masses will always look to the price first. I'm really hoping they sell poorly to force them to price match the 290X.

You obviously don't know that the Titan runs at around 1ghz when in a game thanks to gpu boost 2.0. You should also know that all reviews of the 290x had the card throttling as low as 650mhz with an average of 850mhz and yet still beating the Titan.

So Cal
what is wrong with pcie 2.0????? if processor and mobo used ONLY supports 2.0 then it will show 2.0...

if you have mobo and processor supports 3.0 then it will show 3.0...

gets????

No. The card has the pci e 3.0 built into the cars and then the board supports that. What the GPUz shows is what the Card uses. So that is a fake gpuz shot.

This was inevitable... the titan was just an overshoot by nvidia, it's really only useful to those who would normally buy quadro cards. But dam, are they squeezing every penny out of Kepler that they can! I can't believe they finally released big daddy 680.....

More cuda cores and slightly higher clocks is all the Ti needs to take the crown back off the 290x in everything up to 2560x1600 - aka, the bread and butter.

My money is on EOL for the Titan, 780 at $500-575, and a 780 Ti for $650 looking something like this;

~2496 cuda cores, ~980mhz base clock, boost to 1.1 odd ghz, memory ~1600mhz, possibly untouched. All while being cooler and quieter (less power consumption) than a 290x with the reference cooler, let alone AIB's.

I think that Nvidia has the reputation and the clout to keep selling Titans for 650 if they so choose, but time will tell.
