The board should do very well for you.

Question, why 16gb of RAM? 4-8GB should be plenty(4gb if your not gaming, 8 if you are)

You already have that board or you want to buy it?
If you want to buy it, better search for an A88X chipset motherboard so you can upgrade later.

Also get fast ram, at least 1866 Mhz. APU will benefit from fast ram.

A motherboard with FM2+ cpu support may be wise decision if you have a bit time and make a bitmore search ( FM2+ cpus are upcoming AMD cpus ) .Some manufacturers already have motherboards with FM2+ support

It all depends when you buy into the lifecycle of the memory, at least as it has for DDR1, DDR2 and DDR3. Usualy the new memory technology is much higher latency than the older mature standard. It takes years until the new standard is mature for relative latency to drop to comparable or lower than the previous generation's best. I know that my DDR3-2400 CL11 would beat your DDR2-1066 CL5 in all benchmarks, but it took five years for the high speed low latency DDR3 to arrive.

Within the past month I sold some old OCZ Platinum DDR2 1066 kits like you have and I was amazed that I could still get $60 for each 2 x 2GB kit, especially because I only paid $50 for them originally. Old high speed memory seems to hold its value.

This is true for the higher density DDR3 sticks as well. If you spent €100 bying 4GB sticks a year ago you could probably sell those for at least €150 now. Computer hardware as an investment is a strange idea.

The way to make money is to buy a high-end product at clearance prices just when its socket is being discontinued. This applies for CPUs, motherboards, and memory. The prices only increase after that.

My hypothesis is that people who want to upgrade only want to replace individual parts of their system rather than replacing the entire system even if it is obsolete. For example, the cost of a processor that fits an obsolete socket may be higher than one that fits a current socket (with the same performance), but then they don't have to buy a new motherboard or memory so they're willing to pay a premium for the obsolete processor.

A few years ago I posted about a really big windfall where I made $175 on an obsolete motherboard. In hindsight I suspect it was because because DDR3 was getting cheap and it was less expensive to pay a lot for a DDR3 motherboard and get cheap DDR3 memory than to buy a cheap DDR2 motherboard and get expensive DDR2 memory.

It's lower latency than DDR2-1066 CL5, which is all I cared about for the comparison.

Actually, there were kits offering comparable latencies (e.g. DDR3-2000 CL7, DDR3-2200 CL8 - I still have some of those) available in 2009, if you remember the Elpida Hyper craze. So i don't see much validity in your statement.

I'm not arguing that those didn't exist; I'm arguing that they were prohibitively expensive until recently. DDR2-1066 CL5 could be picked up on clearance in 2008 for about $60/kit. You couldn't beat that latency with DDR3 on the same budget until recently.

Um you guys do realize the cl is memory frequency bound and as such a CL8 1600mhz will have same response time as a CL4 800mhz kit right?
