Looking at Overclockers.co.uk it seems the 780's have already dropped £100 in price.

EVGA GTX 780 Classified for £470 (at Scan too). That is a crazy price. Overclocks comfortably to 1250-1300+, which is about 15% faster than a stock Titan. Therefore 10-15% faster than a 290X.

Hmm...... The 290X needs some AIB infusion pretty damn quick. I'm sure some red tinted haze might rain down on this thread but realistically, a custom solution 780 designed for overclocking matching the price of a stock 290x is a pretty solid salvo in the new price war.

Kudos to AMD for pricing their new card at that point. FTR the Classifieds at OcUK are now sold out.

I tend to believe that most of the pals here commenting, didn;t read the Wiz reveiw on 290X carefully. As only one said, 290X was throttling very hard when in games and dropped the clocks to 700MHz. When custom GPUs come out in late November, this throttling will be minimal to none. So, add a 10-15% FPS more to the performance of 290X and you know what nVidia must chase. Who sees it otherwise?

Wow crazy price drops on GTX 780. Going for as low as 430 euros and I believe I saw some listed for even cheaper for awhile!

Why is this not on the front page as breaking news with cat size letters?!

I read it pretty thoroughly. I also read his Titan review thoroughly.

These are Titan clock values - it spans the spectrum of clocks so it's not even at 993 constant - ranging from 836 to 993.

So we have two cards that have varying clocks as temp load changes. A stock 780 or Titan can keep clocks fairly high on a pretty non aggressive fan profile. Even with near full fan, you'd have to cherry pick reviews that didn't say the Titan/780 cooler was inoffensive, compared with the 290x ref solution.

Come December with the R9 290X customs and the GTX 780Ti released (and Titan a distant memory, unless you own one like mine :p) we'll all have a very merry x-mas.

This. I'm excited for the 780ti to launch (I was almost ready to buy 2x EVGA 780 superclocked) so I'll either get 1) better cards for the same price or 2) those cards for a lot less. Either way = :toast:

Tests show that the TITAN stays pegged at 993mhz 90% of the time whereas the 290x spends more than half it's time below 900mhz also the Titan loses in benchmarks anyway while dropping to a minimum 836mhz but the 290x drops all the way to 650mhz and wins.
BTW here the 780s are still expensive as hell (~800$). :(

We can't call it until someone gets a 290X under water and runs it at a steady clock speed. The reviews are all over the place anyway which shows how hard it is to find the truth although in all practicality the truth is not universal - it depends on your PC, your case, cooling and ambients.

The stock 'card' is a poop. Excellent engine with a terrible body. I look forward to some real world experiences - starting to appear in the benchmark threads. ;)

Much like other reviews it shows if a person is willing to spend $650-750 on GPU the 290x is the better choice in performance with better cooling, if W1zz was throttling and it can sustain 1115Mhz core and perform 12% better than a well cooled stock version......

Which is why those AIB's need to turn up soon. I think water is it's natural partner. I'd like to see an Asus Matrix version without any voltage restrictions. Then EKWB will surely release a block for that version too.

I want one, I have no issue rewiring a BIOS to suit my needs.

I think when I get my bonus this year, time for a upgrade.

Here's W1zz's review temps of the 290X:

What I think my card did was once it was in a 3D state and ramped up its clocks, it had issues coming back down to 2D clocks. So what the software did was raise the GPU clock speed to 1GHz as it cooled off from gaming, and sit at 1GHz and 90C until I restarted.

May have been a fluke with one of the beta drivers, but I usually leave my PC on for several hours at a time, so I had my GPU idling at 90C more often than I had it idling at 50C.

Moreover, 47C idle for the 780 Ti would at least be slightly better than the 290X at 49C.

Hey 8% is a lot!

Or so Nvidia would have you think given the still ridiculous Titan pricing. Even more ridiculous with the new lot of 780s priced at $500 that actually outperform the old ones.

Is it just me, or does anyone else see that Nvidia are every bit as nonsensical business wise as AMD, if not more so lately? They just seem to have more brainwash advertising that afford them an extremely high profit margin.
