I used 85 Hz back when I was on 17" CRTs but today, on LCD, I've only used 60 Hz. Those 25 Hz made a world of difference because of how CRT, in particular, works.

I'm waiting for a 120hz 1440p <5ms 27" IPS monitor.... I'm not keen on getting a Korean monitor and overclocking it. Not confident enough for it.

Well my monitor is 6ms, good enough for me! Although, I did purchase a separate PCB to install capable of overclocking to 120Hz

60Hz is more than enough for me on 1920x1080 22" LCD, on CRT 85Hz was the minimum which didn't give a headache.

Don't see any difference between the old 1600x1200 @ 85Hz vs 1920x1080 @ 60Hz.

The world is getting overly complex, so now for a "good viewing experience", can someone list the dozens of specs you have to consider before even daring to enter a shop to buy a monitor?

Knowing what you want. Then look at different monitors, decide which one you likes best, then buy that monitor. It's not complicated if you have a shop to go to.

LOL and kudoos Frick, but I think you should not mention "if you have a shop to go to" (or maybe yes), I mean, you knows you can also order online, but it is still the same. If I had more time, I would make a "to do list" for monitors to share but maybe I'd get lost between panels, hz, response times, coloer temps, interfaces, verticals and horizontals, etc etc etc.... and don't forget overclockability!!!.

(Scene: You in a shop: "Pardon, dear shoptender, I like this monitor but 80000000000 mhz is not enough for what I want, how about it's overclocking options? Is the BIOS tweakable?, I s it optimized for Red or Green Party?"
Shoptender, running away: "I am going to enroll in the army for a bit of peaceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!"

120hz and a lightboost "hack" since I'm using Radeon and do not have an official lightboost monitor.

There is an actual difference with a low latency, 120hz monitor vs your standard 60hz monitor IF you are a very good FPS gamer.

Doesn't matter to me really, so 60Hz. Everything has a tendency to default to 59Hz though, for some reason.

I wouldn't mind 120 or 144 Hz if I could have it without giving up ips color accuracy

I've seen that odd 59Hz too. But is it really 59Hz or actually 60Hz just reported incorrectly as 59Hz in Windows? As i run my monitor at 120Hz nowadays, it's just an academic question for me.

I used to get 85 Hertz on a samsung CRT way back, now on 60Hz 1080.
Shame I can't overscan the thing no further. Well, I can, but only by 2 Hz.

Dunno. In EU4 it's actually noticable (like a light flicker, edges looking a bit weird sometimes), and I did have a lot of headaches for a while until I noticed that it was set at 59Hz (could've been something else though), so I don't know if it's something wrong somewhere or a bug or something.

For me 60Hz is enough, i rather have a bigger resolution monitor (such as 1440p or 4K / 2160p resolution) than a 1080p monitor but have a higher Hertz.

Normal human eye can't see over 60 frames per seconds or 60Hz 3D images on monitor, unless you have a really trained eyes for seeing the differences between 60Hz + 60 Fps and 120 Hz + 120 Fps on gaming.

Me too hate that, including those that say they notice if a LCD monitor is 60, 75 or 125, etc. : )

But I remember years ago I always had to set up the CRTs of the office, everybody had it at default minimum refresh rates and I had to set it to 75hz. THAT was a flickering even Blind Lemon Jefferson would detect!!! ;)

My LCDs do not have any option to change from 60Hz. And it's technologically totally different also...

I just had to quote the wikipedia on this:
"Refresh rate or the temporal resolution of an LCD is the number of times per second in which the display draws the data it is being given. Since activated LCD pixels do not flash on/off between frames, LCD monitors exhibit no refresh-induced flicker, no matter how low the refresh rate. High-end LCD televisions now feature up to 240 Hz refresh rate, which requires advanced digital processing to insert additional interpolated frames between the real images to smooth the image motion...."

I use 120 Hz + lightboost trick most of the time. When I use my IPS panel HDTV/monitor I use 60 Hz.
