The last Patch Tuesday of 2013 is closing in fast and, as revealed today, it will see Microsoft deliver no less than eleven updates - five rated 'Critical' and six rated 'Important'. The upcoming patches target vulnerabilities found in Windows, Office, Internet Explorer, SharePoint Server, Exchange, Lync, and Developer Tools. One of the critical updates addresses the Microsoft Graphics Component bug acknowledged last month.

The December 2013 MS patches will be rolled out on December 10, at about 10:00 a.m. PST. For a bit more info check out the Microsoft Security Bulletin Advance Notification available here.

Doubt MS will release a Service Pack 2 for Win7. Update Rollup or something else maybe, but MS said eons ago, no more Service Packs. Wished they would hurry up and fix the issue with XP installs taking three forevers to find Windows Updates now. They tried a few times to fix it but it didn't work for everyone.

I'm actually going to wait until Windows 8.2 comes out in January/February. Hopefully by then, they will have ironed out all the kinks and made Windows 8 stable enough. Depending on how user-friendly/advanced-friendly it is, I'm going to give it a try. No use listening to half one side saying it sucks and half one side saying its great. Have to make my own decision.

January/February 2014? You're ridiculously optimistic. November 2014 is what all the rumors indicate. We'd hear a lot more if it was coming sooner. And Windows 8 has always been extremely stable; I don't think anyone disputes that. It's the user interface that has some people unhappy.

What we want is Windows 7 SP2

I don't dispute the idea that it might occur, but I think you're also expecting too much if you think a service pack will do much more than aggregate all the existing updates.

Wished they would hurry up and fix the issue with XP installs taking three forevers to find Windows Updates now. They tried a few times to fix it but it didn't work for everyone.

There's no point in doing with only 4 months to go in its life cycle. All support ends in April 2014.

I ran into this problem the other day and the only thing that seemed to speed up the process somewhat was manual update of root certificates (August 2013 one). Google it and you can install it manually. With this installed things seemed to move faster. Keep Windows Update disabled until you install this thing, of course.

Windows 7 SP1 was just a rollup of all the previous updates - all in one package. Whether you get an SP2 or not is irrelevant at this point, it won't change anything about your OS and will no doubt end just like SP1.

Just going by what I saw a few weeks ago about the news article on NPU: http://www.nextpowerup.com/news/5464/microsoft-windows-8-2-scheduled-for-january-2014.html
Pfft, yeah, OK. That's not going to happen. Microsoft is not going to bring back the Start Menu. I hope they never do.

The only OS release you'll see from Microsoft in early 2014 is Windows Phone 8.1.

Just going by what I saw a few weeks ago about the news article on NPU: http://www.nextpowerup.com/news/5464/microsoft-windows-8-2-scheduled-for-january-2014.html

Search for more on that subject and everything links back to a single article with "my sources tell me". The rest is "I want"s, "there should"s and wishful thinking. Pure FUD.

Which games would these be?

Name a product that isn't defective.

Good luck with that.

I seriously doubt they'd do that mate, not with that greedy attitude of theirs. And if there's anything I know about Microsoft it's that they love forcing us to use whatever they think is important, valuable and useful to them and not what we actually need from them.

I am sure Microsoft needs to update its crystal balls as often as it does it's operating systems, that way it would be able to see vulnerabilities 12 months down the line, it's like saying a new release of graphics card should only get one version and no updates to it's driver, updates improve the product..... ahhhh wait, I must remember to roll back my SSD firmware update so I can get slower speeds!

Really, there is NO way any company could foresee every single vulnerability that hackers spend literally hundreds of hours seeiking to exploit. Hats off to MS for closing these holes that would not be there were it not for some sick-minded entities! And not all patches are for security exploits, some are meant to improve or enhance the product.
