YAY I hope they put out 10 or 12 core FX eventually because that could rival my 3960X in multi threaded loads.

I just hope they dont put too much hope into the software utilization of all these cores, theyre kind of relying on mantle and other engines etc to take multi-threading forward.

I hope that there plans work out, i love gaming and benching my FX-8350 and with 2x7950s it does very well!

i see, i kind of read it as FX plans arent scrapped and that the original leaked roadmap was a fake as it reads too far in to the future.

I wonder what is actually happening, and if there are things to come in 2015

It looks like only APU from now on. Look at the AMD Server roadmap. Berlin listed there is an APU, using Steamroller cores. Maybe they could brand some APUs as "FX processors", but not gonna happen on AM3+ socket

I could honestly care less about what socket they put the processor on as long as it has lots of cores(6 or more) with an ipc increase of atleast 10% and OCs to 5Ghz with ease.

just when i got an am3+ board. w1z any idea how long they will be making FX Chips for Am3+, since i need to get one before they become rare and prices skyrocket.

Long enough, the leaked roadmap says 2015

this is just a matter of time .. but maybe you should just get an Intel CPU with HyperThreading today, you'll get a nice power consumption improvement too.

Sell the laptop, get the fx8350 and a used laptop. Or sell that Phenom for 60% of the price for a 8320, then get that. At least here you would get about €70 for the Phenom, the 8320 is €120. Broadly speaking.

It is fun with the Intel vs AMD cpu´s....
When you take a look at the server CPU´s - Opetron´s vs XEON´s - 2/3 of my companys servers a Opetrons and they are
as good as the XEON´s.

When we make big data extractions from our sequel servers the Opetrons are faster....
(80% of our Intels are 5600 series and all the AMD are 6176)

I do not hope that the FX series or "pure" processors from AMD are going to vanish :(
Intel will be way to dominate and the prices will prob. rise.....

No intel CPU today will easily hit 5Ghz and I do not want to get a 4770K to find out that I got a crap one and it won't do over 4.2Ghz I'd sooner buy an FX 9000 and OC it to over 5Ghz even if it pulls 325W like my 3960X does

That i7 would still be faster, so I don't really see the point. Unless you're coming from a Phenom or something and just want the fastest possible your motherboard supports.

Agreed. My Magnycour servers(6176 & 6180 overclocked) are still out-folding and out-crunching the latest Xeon offerings. Should be relevent for some time now.

that's what i'm thinking, 5ghz looks like a fancy number but different architectures have different performance

To be fair your original article tolled the bells of doom quite loudly, and at that time i did say that it makes no sense at this point to do or disclose anything, pciex3 isnt the step up it seams pciex4 soon will be and with ddr4 so close to becoming mainstream no one in there right mind would swap out a main rig atm unless said main rig blew up.
Time will shine a light on Amd's next socket and plans and untill then fx's Are getting more and more leverage as game engines evolve, eg ,i forsee my 8350 seeing out most games quite easily in the next five years at high to ultra settings unless i get another two screens and even then it wouldnt be the cpu holding me back to much.

It would be nice to see Tpu do a positive spun story on this in the vain of the prior "Article" as its getting a bit hatey round here and id hate it to turn into Tom's H, maybe an adjusment with the Amd guys comments

It seems to me that AMD, if anything, particularly confirmed the original article. They confirmed that there won't be any new FX or Performance releases through at least 2014. This is still a really long time to go without a major release in a market segment.

I'd like to see AMD just unify to one socket, maybe even finally switch to LGA on the desktop line. A large socket, something C32-ish that supports APU or standard CPU(APU's with the GPU disabled like they do on FM2 now), but also allows for 8+ CPU cores. Make the whole line of APUs/CPUs use the same socket, from dual-core to 8-Core or even 12-Core, all on one socket. And at the same time bring some Opterons to the mix.

So basically what they are already doing with FM2(+), but with a more capable socket that can allow for more than just 4 CPU cores.

Huh? The only part where I could see the article as "doomy" would be the title and only if you misread "end of the line" as "end of life". Even if people did that, the roadmap clearly states that Vishera will go on thru 2014 and 2015, which was what the article pointed out: there's no new CPU core being developed for the AM3+ socket. Before that, it was expected that AMD would release Steamroller on AM3+

I guess some sites picked up the story and ran it as "AMD is terminating FX!!! Grab them while you can!!!" Otherwise AMD's "rebuttal" doesn't make sense as it basically confirms the premise of TPU's article.
