reviews for this card look bad. 50% failure rate and the non ref cooler seems to suck

50% failure, and HOW long has it been on the market?? That doesn't bode well....

Well theres selection bios, if it works the people are probably playing games and not writing reviews.

I was able to find myself a Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X at a decent price so I jumped on that yesterday before I just found this on the egg.

If there's a problem with the card, that's why there is a warranty. Granted, it might not be the best non-reference out there, but it's certainly much better than reference in terms of temps/noise.

edit: I just noticed some of the reviews, looks like people are having a hard time with this particular 290. Gigabyte should focus more on quality control before shipping these out, what were they thinking? No wonder why it's discounted :p

I love my windforce3 7950. The heatsink design is very good and keeps the VRM cool as well. I wish I could easily put new fans on it though. Above 60% it starts to sound like a small aircraft taking off.

Absolutely, 7970 cfx is beast and a great setup, despite what many uninformed spew on about.

I miss the days of reasonably priced AMD cards, like a $400 290

Psh. Who needs two. I would understand if you were 1440p or higher though.

That's a good point... I've been mentally budgeting to replace both 6950's with a pair of 280x's, and lamenting not enough RAM, but I should really be able to manage a good 290 or 290 X, and still run all three monitors solidly.
