No 'target GPU temperature' in CCC R9-290 Tri-x

hi,
I just got my Sapphire R9-290 Tri-x and one thing I noticed is that, unlike all the reviews, I don't have any setting for "target GPU temperature" in the Catalyst control center, so my GPU throttles as it approaches 65C or so rather than ramping up the fans, meaning I can only o/c it to about 1000MHz.

I also read that the manual fan control set a limit for the fans, not the actual speed, but mine actually sets the speed.
I have CCC 14.2 and tried 13.11 and also tried the Tri-x o/c BIOS, but still the same.
Any ideas please?

I don't have temperature control too, I just made a custom fan curve in Afterburner and all is well

I've settled in 13.12 drivers now, they let the temperature get much higher before throttling and I've made a custom fan curve in Trixx. I also use the o/c BIOS (1000MHz), but with memory running at 6400MHz, nice Hynix RAM I think. The GPU is awesome, it'll match a 780ti at 1100MHz.

A stock GTX 780 Ti is faster than a 290X @1000/1250 so a 780 Ti OC'd would still win

R9 290X @1050/1350 and GTX 780 Ti Stock

Depends of the clocking of the cards. Generally it needs a ~1050Mhz 290x to tie a stock GTX780Ti, but we don't know the clocking of the 780Ti card. Perfect temperature conditions may make GTX 780Ti averages the 1020Mhz it can go, but most times(in most review sites and users reviews) 780Ti is clocking above 950Mhz. Don't know exactly the warming effects on cards, but 290x(reference) gets downclocked first with the warm. 290x at stock memory clocks have performance per clock a little above Titan's.

That's correct of course, but I meant a stock ti, which is impressive for a card that's $300 AUD cheaper. It would be interesting to see a comparison in Titanfall, which is able to use nearly 4GB Vram on one monitor (I hit 3.6GB today). I presume there's an advantage to utilizing as much Vram as possible.

Boost is 928Mhz, but the card is averaging 993Mhz on tests.
