I don't have money to replace my entire rig and it is fine for the games I play (Skyrim, Total War @ 1080p) so please do not recommend that.

I currently have a gtx 570 that I have to slightly underclock to keep cool/stable. I also have to max out the fan 100% once the GPU goes above 75C. That means playing games gets VERY loud. LOL. Now mind you, I only have a q6600 so I don't want to buy something like a gtx780 that will be crippled by the old CPU. I am looking for something that will be somewhat faster than the gtx570 but MUCH MUCH quieter when performing at an equal level. Also, it must be NVIDIA. Thanks!

only have a q6600

Pffft, Q6600 was the king of gaming, like the modern day 4670K. I'd bet you have no issues gaming on that champ of a quad core. If it must be nvidia, the 760 seems to be the cream of the crop in terms of price/performance. Got a budget in mind?

I would like to keep it under $200. And yea, the q6600 is really quite the beast!!!! :toast: :rockout: :pimp:

750ti - $159
660 - $189

660 is more powerful

*may be after rebate

Do you think the q6600 would cripple the 660?

I'd recommend the Gtx660 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127756 should better in games although benchmark scores seems to be slightly lower definitively quieter and you get a free game which you may or may not be able to sell to get some money back.

Original price 200$, then theres a 5% discount 189.99$ and possible a 20$ rebate seems pretty good deal to me, hope this helps.

Note* the game you get would actually value at 15$ not what is displayed there.

The 750 Ti and the 660 are both slower than your present card, and even the 760 is only about 7% faster. That leaves you looking at 770s, around $400 (670s are slower than 770s but about the same price). To compare relative card performance, I use Passmark's benchmark database - http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html - also a great site for comparing CPUs, RAM, and drives.

Uhh, what? Better performance than a 570 and more memory. I'm not questioning Passmark, but TPU's benchmarks aren't complete fabrication either.

the 660 is about equal(slightly more powerful to tell the truth not slower it most cases) to the 570, the 750ti is a good bit slower but uses much less power, I'd pick a 660 also.

I see you like EVGA design alot, my advice is to get that card and dont worry they are superquiet.

Performs better than your actual GFX you know you can not expect too much from your system

Midrange graphics card are often quiet that ACX cooler from EVGA comes with heatpipes and alot of fins means is a high quality cooler

I've got a 660Ti FTW in secondary rig. I set a pretty aggressive fan profile in Precision, but in reality, it never has gone over 50% speed, with temps staying in the 40's. And I never hear it outside the case. Sometimes I put my hand over exhaust to make sure it is actually blowing out hot air. So, I think a 660 would be a good upgrade and cool-running.

So, what you are looking for is a quieter card at around the same performance or better? I'd suggest a used Asus GTX 670 (or 660 Ti, or 680). (first and only card to get a 10 from w1zzard) You should be able to find them at under $200. I have the 660 Ti and it is silent Folding! If you are looking at new, virtually all of the MSI Gaming cards are very quiet on the Nvidia side. I'm not a fan of the GTX 660 because it's too closely related to the GTS 450, and I see a lot of them for sale on CL, which I see as a sign of dissatisfaction.
Personally, I dislike the GTX 750's. Although their power usage is awesome, they are way over priced for their performance. If you were to step down to this performance level, I'd suggest a used GTX 650 ti or GTX 650 Ti Boost. (just check w1zzard's reviews for noise level)
About buying used: MSI, Gigabyte and Asus all cover their cards for 3 years from date they were manufactured. No warranty issues. EVGA, on the other hand....
IMHO, if I were you, I wouldn't go buy a GPU just because other cards with that cooler are quiet. In reference to that ACX cooler, the GTX 760 ACX ended up testing loud. w1zzard does not have many EVGA reviews though.
Also consider the MSI GTX 760 Gaming. (I don't like the GTX 760. Reminds me too much of the 9600GT)
You could just go and buy theonedub's system and be done with it!
Edit: The EVGA GTX 670 FTW Signature 2 is sweet

If you can wait and expand your budget buy the EVGA 760 if not the EVGA GTX 660 you mentioned is ok for 1080p gaming. A friend of mine has a MSI GTX 660 TF3 and he's completely happy with it.

My friend has a EVGA Superclocked 660ti he'd like to sell for around $200, it was used for about 11 months in sli with a second one before he changed to a micro atx board that didn't have a second pci-e slot. Was never really fully utilized because all he ended up doing was playing League of Legends with them. Idk if you would be interested...

Not loud in the slightest, those size fans are generally pretty tame on midrange GPU's

Nope.

Well I had no idea that the Samsung EVO 500GB SSDs were so cheap! Now I have an extra $60 budget for the GPU...

So do you think the q6600 would bottleneck a 760?

Obviously it depends on the game. Game needs more power than the CPU can provide (CPU bottleneck). Game doesn't need a lot of CPU power (not a CPU bottleneck.)

So do you think the q6600 would bottleneck a 760?

Games that do a shed-load of calculations (AKA lots of physics (BF3&4 explosions), or RTS games like SC2 and Civ V) will probably be bottlenecked by the CPU. Skyrim and your standard FPS games, not to meniton ARPG's will be more GPU orientated, and I sincerely doubt the q6600 will be an issue. Total War is entirely CPU limited. A new GPU isn't going to help you at all. Hell, a 780ti probably won't improve performance in that game.
