Hi guys,

I have two Gainward Phantom GTX 680 4gb cards as SLI.
Everythink worked fine untill yesterday.
Yesterday I´ve realized that I have two differnet BIOS versions on my cards:
- 80.04.09.00.C8 (older)
- 80.04.47.00.0B (newer)
So I decided to flash the card (older version) with the newer bios. (unfortunetaly I didnt create BIOS backup)
Everything went fine, no error messages so i restared PC.
After restart windows 8 x64 stoppes for 30 seconds (black screen) before logon screen, after that the fan of one card goes on 80% and finally logon screen appears. After logon i can see in device manager that one card is working properly but the other one shows following error - Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (code 43)
I tried following: (nvflash -i=0or1 -4 -5 -6 file.rom)
- re-flash both cards with the newer bios, also from USB DOS - everything is ok, I can re-flash both cards without issues
- flash the older version back - doesn´t work - i get error "PCI Block corrupted -size mismatch"
- Uninstall all NVIDIA drivers (also with DDU) and reinstall the newest driver - still code 43 error

Both bios files have been downloaded from techpowerup video bios DB.

Do you guys have any ideas?
Do I loose my guarantee due to flash attempt? My cards are not modified in anyway.

I would really appreciate your help.
Thank you in advance
Regards

I recommend you contact the AIB manufacturer for assistance, they would most likely be able to help and offer advice.
Besides that, there's always @Law-II to come in and save the day.

Yes I did not back up my bios unfortunately. However the bios I´ve flashed on my card seems to be the stock bios.

I didn´t change anything on clocks or volts.
My intention was just to have both cards with same bios.

Does it mean that BIOS flash is allowed?

If ur intrested u can try that gtx770 bios for another 680

Does it mean that BIOS flash is allowed?
It is allowed, with offical.

Have you tryd to unstall nvidia drivers etc then remove graphic cards with Device Manager and then using Guru3D Driver Sweeper(in safe mode) and replaced graphic card
download http://www.resplendence.com/whocrashed and run it if still crash

Hmm i assume I would loose my guarantee with this attempt.

It is allowed, with offical.
Are the Bios files from the TechPowerup DB official versions?

This BIOS matches the old one BIOS that you didn't back up.

May be worth trying to flash the old BIOS back to it. If this works then it's probably best to leave it alone. IMO you shouldn't be flashing BIOS unless you have a good reason for it (LN2).

Thanks for your advice, but I´ve already tried... doesn´t work - i get error "PCI Block corrupted -size mismatch"
What does it mean?

And yes now Im also smarter. I ll not flash any graphic card without the reason :)

UPDATE:
TPU stores corrupted .rom Files.
The best example is this here - http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/119396/gainward-gtx680-4096-120409.html
The original file should be 179kb - this one is corrupted - 63kb and it causes the nvflash error message - pci block corrupted size mismatch
I flashed in the meantime my card with BIOS for Zotac (same clocks and also 4gb) - http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/124508/zotac-gtx680-4096-120424.html
It works perfectly, also SLI.
I have requested the original .rom file 80.04.09.00.C8 from Gainward support. I hope they will provide it.

Regards

Hi,
I just have recieved the original Gainward .rom file with 80.04.09.00.C8 BIOS from Gainward Support Team Europe.
Since the BIOS file from TPU BIOS DB with this version is corrupted it would make sense to replace it with my version
Who should I contact to share my file?

Regards

what's the link to the corrupted bios? I doubt it's corrupted, it might just not be for your card.

Hi guys,

so now I´m at home and I can give my update (in case someone is interested)

Gainward guy explained me that the older verison for Gainward Phantom GTX 680 4gb (80.04.09.00.C8) works only for this model produced until June 2012 (incl), after this time point they changed RAM for this card, thats why newer models have another BIOS and my flashed card didnt work properly. The newer BIOS - 80.04.47.00.0B works therefore only for cards produced after 1st of Juli 2012

Now I was able to successfully flash back to 80.04.09.00.C8 and everything works great.

@W1zzard the .rom file mentioned above is indeed corrupted. nvflash wont accept it with the message "PCI Block corrupted -size mismatch"
Im just mailing you the original one from Gainward Support which works fine for me.

Thank you very much guys for your help attempts, I appreciate it

Regards

Edit: also many thanks @ Gainward Support Europe . your support should be an example for other support teams :)

What was the file size on the BIOS file that was sent by Gainward?
