is it free solution or are you willing to pay?

the best you can get is exchange from my experience, also if you using Outlook 2013.

i got customers with imap too and they have trouble synchronizing emails older then 6month with Outlook 2013, but my customers with exchange don't have any problems.

E-mail servers are difficult to run if you've never done it before and you run the risk of losing everything.

That said, if you wish to experiment with your own server, Ars Technica has a great guide on setting one up on a free Amazon instance.

you can host it if you want or pay for someone else to host it, it's not cheap.

here is a little info about Exchange hosting: http://www.thehostingnews.com/xs-exchange-hosting.html

It's still in the works.

http://arstechnica.com/information-...wn-e-mail-server-with-your-own-domain-part-1/

And it's not exactly a tutorial. It is a LOT of work, and it will continue to be a lot of work as long as you run it. Private mailservers might be fun for private mails, but for professional use I really would not recommend it. Just read those articles and you get an idea of how much you have to think about.

if u want it professional why don´t you rent managed root server due that volume of email adresse that might rise aswell
create some sort of bash / php script and fetch 1000 mails per queue
also u have the mail log for later monitoring which address fails ....... or got tagged as spam....

all other is peanuts

Edit: yout db will be backup´d too so u would not loose your data by a HW failure , also you can easy add remove addresses and have access worldwide

Sorry did I misunderstand here. Are you trying to send out mass emails to 50,000 users?

As in marketing type emails?

If so I would recommend using something like Sendgrid:

http://sendgrid.com/

What system are you trying to tie this into?

If you start sending emails to that many people you will likely get blacklisted. Hence a mailing service is recommended. If you are looking for an email service that can handle frequent emails and manage your contacts then I would look at a service such as Office 365 or Google Apps.
