Im waiting for games to stop having a case of bad consoleportalitis and come out with the HD textures and stuff that PC gaming deserves so that we as pc gamers can really get into the game and enjoy great visuals because our hardware can support it.

Ive just purchased an Asus PB278Q however so this whole 4k business wont happen for me for at least another 2-3 years

I think what will happen is that I will stick with my PB278Q for desktop tasks and get a 4K Occulus (or Facebook free equivalent) for gaming when it comes.

Personally, I'm really torn.

One one hand, I want a new 60-65'' tv, and if those Vizio P's launch any time soon (whenever 'Fall' turns out to be) the AUO-made 65'' seem like they will be a pretty good option for my setup, minus potential glare issues (and the absence of 3D is kind of a bummer). That's the only thing making me even consider another 1080p set. I kind of like the prospect of upgrading every four years. Four years from now *should* mean decent options for OLED, and 4 years from then 8k.

On the other hand, the wait & see (♫ risuku ga aru kara koso ♫ ) folks have a lot of logic on their side. How will 1080p (gaming/video) look on some of these screens? Certainly the tech has a ways to go in both spec/quality maturation, not to mention prices dropping on decent offerings. There is the gpu issue, which probably won't make sense for a lot of people (including myself) until 16nm, which is at least two product cycles away.

I put this year, as I think my will power isn't going to hold out, but for the more logical amongst us I think 2016 or even later will probably make the most sense.

Probably never. I just "upgraded" from a 22" 1680x1050 TN LCD to a 24" 1920x1200 ISP LED backlit monitor and I think it'll be like 10 years before I ever consider buying a new one. In fact I wouldn't even have bought my current one if not because I managed to put it down as a business expense (bought it for a trade show) ;)

When they have a large scale OLED version. I can't see the pixels on my 24" desktop as it is now, so why do I need more?

I'm not buying a traditional 4K screen but rather a high-resolution 21:9 screen like the LG 34UM95 which has a 3440x1440 resolution. This seems more much useful to me than a 16:9 3840x2160.

it would be nice with the resolution but again, i just brought a QHD Screen running 120hz so i don't wanna spend any money on screens not, and with the all the things going on way too much money for the screens.

That's just it I can't bring myself to spend $600 or more on a monitor. As it sits $600 will hardly buy you a 2560 x 1440 monitor. So 4k has a long LONG way to go before I'll even think of getting one. Don't even get me started with the money I'd have to invest in GPU power!

I'm waiting for GPUs to catch up. As it stands now, I still get occasional lag in titles like bf4 when heaps of stuff is happening around me with settings on max with 280x crossfire - which I know isn't the most powerful out there but it was the most powerful I could afford. The 21:9 screens look tasty though, but I think I would regret buying one down the track if I did and it wouldn't fit on my desk with the speakers as well :p

Also what happens when you plug in say an Xbox or playstation into the HDMI on a 4K display? Does the picture fill the whole screen but just appear a little fuzzy? or what.
