What should I overclock in gaming: the CPU, GPU, RAM, or the monitor? I'm really confused at the moment and I don't know what will increase my frames per second for gaming. I don't have my hardware yet. I just want to know which would component will help improve gaming performance when overclocked. Thanks.

Usually is first GPU then CPU... If you overclock both you can squeeze a lltie bit of juice.

That's interesting, I haven't heard that before regarding minimum fps, do you have a source?

it is the cpu/ram which loads the textures from the harddrive to the frame buffer.

it is this process which causes the major dips in fps which cause the min frame rates.

mhz from the cpu/ram will help as will a faster hdd/ssd. pretty common knowledge dude.

@op

if you can get more hz from your screen it will show you more fps.

more info on what you are running and what your issues are would make it easier to help.

I simply OC both, I never had even thought that which helps more.. OC'ing CPU (and maybe RAM too) speeds the overall performance too, not just games.

Yeah man, besides other people's tests, I run my own little benches here and there. You might find my results amusing to read: http://www.overclock.net/t/1459735/...-overclocks-and-comparing-bottlenecks-fm2-cpu

Also when tuning this platform, even in a very GPU dependent benchmark you can see the progression as the CPU/NB/RAM increased, the bottom FPS shifted all the performance up a notch.

You must overclock both your CPU and your GPU because some games are CPU-limited and some games are GPU-limited. Overclocking RAM won't help much. As for the monitor I've overclocked mine to 67Htz from 60Htz. Every bit helps.

First leave it stock and make sure its running ok. At least for a week or so. Get some baseline benchmarks. Then the CPU is the easiest so start there. But get a aftermarket cooler first

It really depends on the hardware as to what to overclock. if you get a GTX780 there is no need to overclock it on a 1080 monitor.

Another thing. If your confused dont do it. Do more reading and try to understand what your doing. You can damage your new parts.

I'd say overclock both CPU and GPU, but before doing that, read out carefully about safe overclocking and all related stuff.
About the monitor thing, that Hz thing is your monitor's refresh rate, it's more of a visual thing than a performance thing.
