Hi everyone im looking to buy 2 of these.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824160167

Im trying to jump onto the IPS 1080 bandwagon to get off my unmatched TN panels. The issue im really running into is 1 who is AOC and 2 Iv been reading that some IPS displays are almost equal to their TN counter parts. The part that scares me is that I am indeed looking to step up if I cant then I really wont shell out the cash matching panels or not. The product page in itself talks about having an IPS display but unfortunately I dont know what kind of IPS display it is. So im asking for TPUs expertise am I going to get burned do you think? Or do you think it is worth it?

I haven't liked the 1080p IPS panels I've seen, and I really wouldn't think much of something that cheap. I didn't fully enjoy IPS until I got a 1440p LG panel, so I guess who makes the panel matters.

What didnt you like about IPS? Other then some complaints about ghosting (which most IPS seem around 5ms and it wasnt an issue for me back when old LCDs were 5ms) The color reproduction seems great on them which is what im actually after anyway. Alas I havent even been able to get a panel manu either. their spec PDF didnt enlighten me much more then their product page already did. I havent seen many reviews for the monitor online but I dont think its old enough to have really earned any.

I don't know how to quantify it exactly, a bad IPS for me down right hurts my eyes. I guess that would be backlight related, but also if it has a harsh vibrancy. Calibration usually can't help that sort of thing.

I have an AOC i2757fh. I have no complaints whatsoever. I was little concerned about the cheaper materials that are used in the construction but I've had it for about one and a half years and have taken it down to friend's houses and I've moved a couple of times in that time too with no issues at all. A really great monitor. I had a Dell U2312hm before it and I thought the Dell had an overly aggressive anti-glare coating where it would hurt my eyes after a couple of hours. I much prefer this AOC to the Dell (I think I might have started a war after that statement  ).

Something I have noticed is that although the colours are good, you get the typical IPS faint glow when the whole screen is displaying a black image. I think it is due to having a cheaper grade IPS panel though although the Dell had this too....No noticeable ghosting on my end either which is good.

Also don't fall into AOCs trap of where the bezel begins (as you will read in the reviews). Although it only has a 2mm border, the display actually begins about 4mm in from that border - if that makes sense. See below for representation (taken from google images - i2757fh).

So does the LCD cut out by ~2mm? like dead space? what was your dead pixel count if any?

Yeh imagine that 3-4mm of the display isn't showing because of where the display finishes (it is showing fine though just so you know - you still have the full resolution 1920*1080). In other words the border just sits flush with the display and only has that extra 2mm bezel on the edge to protect the screen. It doesn't bother me at all.

No dead pixels for me. The only other screen I've had no dead pixels with is my ancient BenQ FP241W from like 2006.

That does look really nice. Iv personally always hated dead space borders. I would almost rather take a bezel over that but its not too bad and that image is nice. Does it look sharp to you in person? What are your thoughts on IQ?

Honestly for a stretched 1080p resolution on a 27" display it does look pretty sharp. So I can only imagine it would be extremely sharp on the 22" model you are looking at. IQ? Image quality I'm guessing? Quite nice, a neutral colour response. The only calibration change I did was the overdrive setting for reduced ghosting. At default it is set on max, but I had better results with medium.

I believe what LAN is referring to is some cheap IPS monitors have terrible color accuracy out of the box, and many can't be adjusted or calibrated enough to correct it.

Dell and LG are two brands that are often pretty good out of the box with color accuracy on their IPS monitors, and some of the ASUS models too.

I personally steer well clear of the ultra cheap monitors, esp ones that have features of higher end brands, such as IPS. Usually they will have issues with picture quality or reliability, sometimes both.

If you're getting two anyway, I would just get something better and wait to afford the second. At least you'd have the one while waiting.

The reviews didnt seem that bad and I did have my reservations but they could turn out to be great monitors and I will take it apart to read the panel info so atleast someone can leave a review telling others what the deal is. As it stands I have 4 in total on the way. If they turn out horrible nothing ventured nothing gained I will disassemble 1 find out everything that needs to be known about it and then sell them.

Its exactly the same with the Dell U2713HM and the other U-series dells. Actually no, its about a whole centimeter with the Dells...

I didn't notice that on my u2312hm. It just had a normal bezel. It might be different for the 13 series though.

I'd say stay clear of the cheap monitors - better safe than sorry. I'd pay a bit more and feel safe that the monitor wont die on me. (Also, what the **** is AOC?) When I was in the market for a monitor I read the brand and walked right past the unknown brands, but I may be a brand-whore though.

AOC has been around for a while man. I'm not sure how long it's been in the US for (or Latvia in your case according to your location) but I've seen it here in Australia regularly for as long as I've been interested in tech stuff so probably ~10 years. It's as common as BenQ, Samsung and LG displays. Also my particular model uses an LG panel according to tftcentral. I was a little hesitant about buying an AOC monitor initially but after having it for about a year and a half I have nothing bad to say about the brand.

EDIT: I just checked my 'hidden' factory OSD and my panel is an LG.Display LM270WF5-S2A2 - an AH-IPS panel.

I believe AOC used to be Envision. I have 23" LCD AOC monitor for 4+ yrs now and no issues with image or ghosting. Only issue I have is the DVI connector, if the monitor is shaken, then I see a green vertical line, which goes away when I wiggle the cable again.

How did you check hidden OSD?
On mine you have to hold the left and right arrow while you press the on button. This then makes another sub-menu in the OSD available. This being the 'hidden' factory OSD.

Ahh man. I was too late. I would have recommended the ones that I have. The Dell S2340M. Refresh is a little slower, but the picture is great and brightness is perfectly consistent across the entire panel. IQ wise, I love it. Not to mention Dell usually has pretty reliable products as far as monitors are concerned. The only thing that I see about the AOC that would turn me off is the lack of ability to use a VESA mount if you wanted to mount them and the lack of adjustment on the stand since you can't mount it. Other than that, looks like it will be a nice panel. I loved the switch to IPS and people might think I'm crazy but the shiny finish on the panel makes all the difference. Matte finishes tend to blend pixels a bit where purely transparent doesn't. Best of luck with the display, let us know how it goes. :toast:
