When I can get an IPS 4k for <$700 ... or the same price I got my ZR30W for...
There is no way I will go to a TN 4k monitor from this 1600p wonder.

Yeah I just bought a Asus PB298Q monitor and I love it. I was trying to decide between this monitor or the Asus PB278Q but I felt I would like the wider 21:9 aspect ratio better for my gaming computer. I already have 2 Asus VH236H monitor for my other computer. Plus I just got a Samsung UN40F6300 that I use for movies and Netflix.

Once the videocard to drive it is $300 and the monitor is $300. I never buy more than $250-350 of videocard. My two Asus 23.6" 5ms 1080P monitors are from 2009 and cost only $150 each. A modern 24" monitor is $150. WTF? Yeah maybe new backlight technology or thinner bezel or some other crap I don't care about.

"I will buy 4k system when there will be out 120hz monitors and mid range GPUs that can run top games on high settings smoothly... complete system for under 1000 $"... oh, wait :D. but if seriously - I will buy 4k screen (60hz) when there will be more movies out in 4k. I hope that it will be soon and I do not mind spend 800$ for screen if only I will have content to watch on that. obviously no movies, in mainstream amounts, will ever come out on 1440p or 1600p - so I will skip those no matter how cheep they get. as far as gaming goes - these last few GPUs generation gave us no price/preformance increas at all (prevous generation changes offered kick ass preformance increase over predecessor for same price aspredecessor) - so - no, I will not pay 500$+ for GPU that barely (without any future potential) can run top games on top resolutin (4k).

I said "next year" because then I may be able to afford 3-6. I couldn't work on a single monitor productively and I don't like dual monitors because there is no middle/main monitor.
Wouldn't use it for a lot of gaming. But maybe 30" 4K? Graet for web design and coding :)

Clearly we need GPUs to catch up to hit 144+ hz (when they eventually make 144hz 4k displays...) but I'm willing to buy a 4k display for regular non-gaming use (e.g. video, photo, browsing, work, email). Finer resolution is always better as long as OSes like Windows implement scaling properly....

Got mine today, paid in the mid-$600 range for a brand new Dell UP2414Q and LOVE it. Amazing build quality, amazing display quality, amazing EVERYTHING. Win8.1 scaling works 100% perfectly for me on everything I've tried (with some programs requiring small tweaks for font size) but photoshop and that's not too small to use efficiently anyway with around an 18" eye-to-screen distance for me (definitely small though). Desktop usage is perfect and beyond-magazine-like in quality for text and images, while gaming is just blissful with everything looking like a cg painting rather than a game display. My GTX 780 is a little slower than I'd like, but only by a little, thinking of upgrading to a 780 Ti which hopefully will bridge that gap.

FXAA is plenty in every game to literally eliminate aliasing even if I'm looking specifically for it close-up on moving edges. Overall setup process was very smooth to get displayport 1.2 @ 4k 60hz even though this monitor uses MST, and I am just blown away by the difference this resolution makes. It's far beyond the switch I had gone through from 1680x1050 to 2560x1600/1440 many years ago in terms of the upgrade and overall impression of it. It really has to be seen to be believed.

I was very timid on trying it because of the negative press back when this thing launched but whatever the issues were then, simply aren't there at this point, as far as mst with drivers, dpi scaling, etc. in Win 8.1. 100% beyond worth it and way past my admittedly high expectations in terms of quality on every level.

Meh, super high distorting on sides aspect ratio for much lower rez and low support gamewise. Rather have my 4k panel... and yeah I voted with my wallet :D.

Probably never due to two things:
  • consoles are way too slow and PC GPUs are also at least 5 years from getting what I consider a perfect experience at 4k -- meaning most developers won't care about people who invest in a 4k PC monitor and games in this res will look like jaggy and washed out crap thanks to upscaled or overstretched textures
  • Blu-rays will need replacing with 4K versions = huge waste of money and will not happen for a long time (for me at least 5-10 years)
Saying that, I have plans on getting two monitors soon though; 1x 1080p IPS touchscreen and 1x 21:9 monitor, like the 34UM95 -- both will be for video/audio editing, making it that much easier to work. As for gaming, my 120Hz 1080p monitor will hold me over until at least the next console generation (since neither the Xbone nor the PS4 can natively run anything above 1080p).

Can't wait until Mantle 3.0 is out so I can move on with a 4k. I rather have 80 frames on a 1080p than 30 frames at an expensive monster.

Don't get me wrong. 4K has its place. I'm just not sure its 20 in in front of my face. Pixel destiny is massive. Now on a 80" screen at 10 ft now that would be nice.

I have a 4K monitor ( specifically the Samsung one ) all i have to say is i bought it because i have the system to run it ( 3 R9 290x ) and even then crysis 3 doesnt always give 60FPS, in fact it hardly does D:

Stuff such as BF4 and other games though run like butter getting up to and around 100FPS still running maxed.

I'm getting mine when the prices are the same as today's 1920x1080 monitors. :) No hurry to get one.

edit: And 4k would be a total waste since my HD5870CF with 1GB memory doesn't have enough horsepower for that resolution..

Waiting for them to go under $500, GPUs have caught up and Windows have better UI scaling before i make my move.
