Your the one with all the blocks lol not me.

Balls, not blocks

No, I get what you're saying. Persoanlly, I think i'd take a look... But if I were in Atticus' shoes, I'm not sure what I would do. You, the man of steel balls, will rip apart a card without issue, but not everyone will do that, especially while under warranty.

Water blocks, that's in a whole different realm

Ive spoken to the MSI rep in the past about removing the cooler for cleaning or repasting the GPU, and he told me that so long as im not trying to do something like repasting with jam or peanut butter - or doing something I know would damage the card intentionally then its ok to go ahead with it for general maintenance

Obviously, they have some pretty high standards lol !

On my BF4 Sapphire 290x, I lapped the stock heatsink (the surface was really bad) and replaced the TIM with some decent results. The fan is still too damn loud for my liking and I'm shopping for a waterblock now.

The four around the chip, the one has the sticker on it and there's 2 about 2/3 down the length of the gpu towards the back of the card.

Just to confirm, that is ~85c you're getting now with 100% GPU usage?

What country are you in and how many days did it take for RMA?

funny i got 94° on a ref cooler in auto but now that i apply @GhostRyder 65% fix fan speed i never got past 64° in game (except BF4 75° sometime) ok 65% is kinda noisy but with my sound setup i don't hear it that much and i plan on re using my Prolimatech MK-26 once i get a case that can fit it, and maybe a Gelid Icy Vision V2 in between (running it 1000/1300 atm)

Yea, 60%-65% depending on the setup when testing allowed for the temps of the reference card to keep well below 80c which I found funny at how much of a difference that 5% made.

They are noticeable at that speed, but I never found it intolerable or a problem when I would play a game for testing and what not (As you know I went LC soon after though).

I had an old card that would, in-game, hit 115c and throttle. I put the computer down on its side, dusted it out, checked everything I could, booted it up, 50c in-game. Thinking it was fixed, turned it off, put it upright, turned it on, 115c. I suspect the metal wick inside the heatpipes wasn't doing its job. Slapped a Arctic Cooling something-something passive heatsink to it and got great temps from there on out.

Glad it's resolved though!

@GhostRyder @GreiverBlade you mean go 65% fan speed all the way in manual?
Oh sorry for not being clear we were referencing the reference models of the 290/290X fan speeds. But even when I mess with aftermarket cooler cards I normally do bump the fan speeds up beyond and just test what speeds offer the best temp control during games so they do not adjust all the time. However new coolers have gotten so much better its almost unnecessary.
