Hello,

Having learnt some information from another thread by the OP, they are currently using a 32in 1080p TV as their "monitor". This may help with the suggestions. I have already suggested to them in this other thread that if the OP plans on buying an R9 290x, they probably should be getting a 1440p or 1600p monitor in order to fully utilise the card. If not, perhaps a different GPU would be more suitable.

ohhh i also use a 32" 1080P TV as screen but i got a R9 290. still i can't but second your idea of getting a 1440p or 1600p for a card like that (i would if i could afford it :D )

also nothing prevent the OP to buy a 290X and go 1440/1600p later (i intend to do so once my financial status will be better) so he will have a 1440/1600p capable card who will be under used on 1080p but will be usable in case of screen upgrade instead of needing a 2nd 280X (for example) in addition of the 1st one, or a 290X after buying a 1080p more adapted card.

That's not their best 290x Vapor actually. They have an OC version with 1080 vs 1030 core. For the life of me I can't find anyone that stocks it though.

http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?cid=1&gid=3&sgid=1227&pid=2283&psn=&lid=1&leg=0

Amazon has it
Sapphire Radeon VAPOR-X R9 290X 4GB GDDR5 DUAL DVI-D/HDMI/DP TRI-X OC version PCI-Express Graphics Card 11226-09-40G

Overclockers UK
Sapphire Radeon R9 290X Vapor-X OC 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (11226-09-40G)

Just search the part number if you need to find it locally

I've found 2 versions of the tri-x because i can't find any vapor-x.

The one with an "x" like r9 290 x and the one that doesn't have the x.

http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?cid=1&gid=3&sgid=1227&pid=2150&psn=&lid=1&leg=0

These two,so should i buy the expensive one and does the two have noticeable differences from each other? As i've said i want to play the new upcoming games like Far Cry 4 and Assassins Creed Unity in ultra max settings.

Radeon R9 290 and 290X have difference indeed (tho AMD were nice enough to not cut too much from the 290X to do the 290)

Radeon R9 290Hawaii/Nov 2013/PCIe 3.0 x16/4096 MB, GDDR5, 512 bit/947 MHz/1250 MHz/2560 / 160 / 64
Radeon R9 290XHawaii/Oct 2013/PCIe 3.0 x16/4096 MB, GDDR5, 512 bit/1000 MHz/1250 MHz/2816 / 176 / 64
main difference 53Mhz 256 SP and 16 TMU less (basically 1-7% less powerful depending the game, according to many reviews)

also i highly doubt FC4 and ACU will be hindered by any of those version for ultra high, even a 280X/770 would be enough

I would and did, I have some 290x and there is a decent difference. If you can get it, I would get the 290x.

Overclock it if you feel the need to or if you just want to (there shouldn't be any need to really). I've RMAed a 280x before that I had overclocked without any questions being asked. Warranty shouldn't an issue, I believe that would be more if you tinkered with stuff with the BIOS or pulled apart the card and damaged it during that process, then the warranty would probably be void. There are some pretty good guides on youtube for overclocking by reputable channels/uploaders. There are also written guides here on TPU as well.

If I understand correctly you will use the card on a 32'' 1080p tv so I personally don't think you should overclock because you wont need the extra horsepower at that resolution.

But if i ever need to overclock it,it would be safe right?
Yes assuming you do so in the correct manner. I always overclock my graphics cards. I had a GTX 580 SOC and that bad boy was overclocked since I first got it about 2 and a half years ago right up until about month or two ago when I sold it. That was overclocked pretty highly too. It never missed a beat.

But is the performance really that great?Compared to the 290.I mean like in your opinion, should i buy the 290x one if you were me and you had the money?
of course i would take a 290X over a 290 if i had the money, but i hardly had any, even to get a 2nd 270X for my previous rig, tho i got lucky on reselling my previous rig and got myself some pretty sweet deals to build the new one matching the price of the resell price.

is the performance really that great? well look any 290X review and see where the 290 is
for me price to price (400ish versus 600ish) isn't completely worth the performance gap

Wai-wait, i was talking about this r9 290x
SAPPHIRE TRI-X R9 290X 4GB GDDR5 (UEFI)

http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?cid=1&gid=3&sgid=1227&pid=2150&psn=&lid=1&leg=0
Not the red one.But regardless of that it still has a great difference from the 290 doesn't it?
1-7% isn't so great, to make it simple a 290X has a faster clock, more shader processing unit, more texture mapping unit, the 1000/2816/176/64 versus 947/2560/160/64 i was writing about a bit above
basically shader and TMU the more you have the better, but it doesn't mean that a 290 is considerably weaker than a 290X

after that it's a matter of need and even a 290 can meet the demand for next games, after that you have the price to performance ratio and the 290 is 1st on that point, so the real question is : do you absolutely want pay the maximum for a 290X or get a 290 spare some $$$ and get something else with that amount spared (depending on the "gain" you might also go for a 1440/1600p screen by adding a bit to it)

I see.Thank you for the answers.Sorry if i still keep posting questions.:p
no need to be sorry
