Sapphire HD 6770 dead, RMA help appreciated.

Hi everyone,
A few days back, my 2.5 years old Sapphire HD 6770 died. I played BF4 for 1.5 hrs and sometime later got vertical lines on the screen while browsing the internet. Rebooted and no display. Rebooting again and again returned no display or blank display. After tons of reboots, I got to Windows again but after sometime it again crashed with the vertical lines. Rebooted. No display and beeps from motherboard. I turned off power, waited for sometime and turned back on. As soon as I pressed the power button, there was an explosion near the VRM of the card and POST failed with the same beep codes. I inspected it and one of the MOSFETs is gone. The PCB is not damaged. I have still got warranty. So can you guys help me out in what card I should accept as replacement? The HD 6770 is no longer in production. So I am confused what they will give me.

the HD6770 was released back in 2011, Unless you have extended manufacturers warranty (of which is impossible) or life time warranty (also impossible as your card is not an XFX) They will charge you for any repairs that are needed on the card or at least charge you for trading up to a different model because the street value of a 6770 isnt very high....

Actually here in my country, the total warranty term is 3 years. 2 years from the manufacturer as they state in the site and 1 year more from the distributor.

well in that case, take it back to the shop for RMA. Shop warranty is when they will do an exchange for you if they have the same part of equivalent in stock. Sapphire wont accept direct RMAs (at least thats the situation here in the UK) so you'll have to RMA with the store regardless and let them deal with it for you. Ive had to RMA sapphire 4870s and 5850s in the past and its always had to go through the retailer.

I see. Thanks for the info. Here in India, the case is different. We have to go to the distributor and on an average, they take 10-15 days and replace the card. I have seen and heard people got 6850 in place of 5770 and R9 270 in place of 7850. Don't know if I will be so lucky. But which card in the present series performs the same or slightly better than the 6770 because I should expect that only. I guess the R7 250. Am I correct?

10-15days is if the card is still in production & the store has one to swap out for you, Sapphire might give them credit to do an exchange - both ALL my RMAs with Sapphire took 1 month if not longer.

I would just save up and get a new gpu if they are gonna charge you to repair it you can snag a 6870 or even a 6950 for about 100.00USD

My friend gave a dead 6850 purchased on Dec 2011. He got a replacement 6850 only in like "new condition" which looks good as new and works like new as well. It took 7 days only.
