Stardock is a good developer.. anti-DRM since the beginning. $99 well spent.

Can you comment some on the Alpha or are you under NDA?

Just curious on how the series has progressed.
I skipped over GC2 because it was more of the same and I spent so much time on the first one.
It seems like GC3 is more of the same mechanics but with slightly updated visuals.

Does anyone know a good turn-based strategy (or real-time, it doesn't really matter, even though I like TBS better) that has at least few RPG elements in it? Something like Dawn of War II, maybe XCOM: Enemy Unknown, Might & Magic Heroes 6... I played all of these (except for XCOM, only demo, think I'm gonna purchase it this week with South Park: The Stick of Truth). Getting pretty tired waiting for Civilization: Beyond Earth already...

I am gonna wait till I can see more of GC3 before I bite...I'm saddened as I want more combat in my 4X. I am really digging Distant Worlds: Universe...you guys should seriously look at this title. It's extremely addictive...I am following this noob guide with no automation....it's a good challenge and fun!

I had to redo my laptop....just got PA playing on it, SW Empire @ War Gold, and Distant Worlds....3 amazing strategy games. I am also downloading SotS.....I have 2 but last time I tried it I was super disappointed. The original Sword of the Stars is still fun, albeit I end up getting bored and side-tracked.

I know what you mean regarding GC3, I've played a bit of Endless Space which has helped the 4x itch. It's a beautiful game but damn is it hard. Seems as I just starting building some basic ships I get steamrolled. I wonder if I am expanding too much in the early game>?

there is no NDA. the developers want us to use "kid gloves" when discussing it because it's not in beta or early access so a lot of content or features haven't been implemented yet. early access will launch later this year and retail for $49.99.

I forgot Stardrive 2 is coming out this year

hard to get excited.. Sid Meier focusing on the AAA experience and Stardock pretty much the leader in 4X now.

Stardrive 1 was entertaining...I honestly prefer RTS-style vs turn-based. It's the C&C fan in me I suppose. 2 being turn-based is probably for a better experience...and I will give the dev props, I found quite a few hours of entertainment in the first title, even with it's issues.

I already have GC2 in a different gaming client (impulse or gamestop...I don't remember I haven't had it installed in forever)...thinking about just picking it up in Steam and trying it again. We shall see. GC3 I'll have to wait and see...I really have to admit that between Planetary Annihilation (Fun factor X 1,000,000,000) and Distant Worlds Universe (Amazing factor X 1,000,000,000) I'm pretty well set.

It's good to see strategy and 4X alive and strong again...5 years ago this was a very dimly lit arena where Sins and SotS were the newest options iirc.

I wouldn't say RTS is dead. There's a new C&C coming. Planetary Annihilation is a blast in beta..err..gamma. 4X strategy is making a huge comeback. Homeworld 1 and 2 are being remastered (YES!!!!!), Indie RTS titles are constantly getting better and bigger (Check out Spring Engine-based RTS titles, check out my original post too). There's a lot going in in RTS and TBS.

Wargames: Red Dragon came out not long ago and even with the steep learning curve is a badass RTS for those looking for a more realistic and real-time war/battle style game...and the sound effects are very very good.

I suppose it depends on what RTS style of game you're after? Future? Sci-Fi? WW2? 4X?

I have AoE2 on disk, is the 1080P version on steam worth it? I have heard you can modify the disk version of AoE2 to get that resolution but haven't tried it.

I'm not too picky on the style as long as it's somewhat fresh. King Arthur the Roleplaying Wargame was really fun and so was Red Alert 3. But I've played those long enough. SpellForce 2: Demons of the Past and Hegemony Rome: The Rise of Caesar were the only 2014 RTS games that I could think of. And the former was a blatant rehash. The remastered Homeworld games are something I'm aware of, but still not out yet. Same goes with Starcraft II: Legacy of the Void.

4X games are something I have a love-hate relationship with; I love the gameplay, but I hate the timesink. Kinda had my fill lately with Age of Wonders III and Eador.

Something squad-based like Kohan, Dawn of War, and Company of Heroes would be really nice to play right now. But there aren't many of those to begin with. Did not know about World in Conflict nor Red Dragon... will look into those.

Just want to say, CoH 2 : Western Front Army is released today.

$20 just for 2 more factions (one poor German and the other GLA-style USA), some maps and no extra campaign, and uhh.. all progression is unlocked for old players? (I imagine there is a lot of rage right now in CoH forum).
It may be wise to wait few months for discount (I think CoH series are often discounted in Steam).

after playing Blitzkrieg Mod lately, switching back to CoH2 again is kinda meh. I miss the short but intense combat in Blitz.

I've been playing an oldie but great game called Knights of Honor. It's a grand strategy game in the vein of the EU series with a rts component similar to Stronghold [which can be skipped!].

It's on sale on steam for $4 and worth every penny.
