Next week should be fun (and this marks my first desktop hardware purchase from Newegg in a year)

I'll let you guys know if the CPU is unlocked on this board, I read the manual from August 2013 and there don't seem to be any "exclusive to Z87" notices next to the BCLK or CPU ratio options, though the BCLK strap is off limits as anticipated.

you can't OC on b85 ?
and that board doesn't support the pentiumk ?
msi should know better not to BS you don't get overclocking on b85 period intel forced vendors to issue a bios update several months to put a stop to it so naturally any board with a bios old enough to support overclocking on b85 won't have support for the haswell refresh so it may not even post
I will be very surprised if that board lets you multi-oc with the pentiumK
lets hope it does because it would be a killer combo

I'm taking a chance on it, knowing it's a B85 and you aren't supposed to be able to OC on anything that isn't Z87. I have no problems using it at stock if it turns out it won't OC, plus the CPU was essentially $5 anyway.

Also, the Pentium G3258 is supported with BIOS C.5 according to the CPU list (6-9-2014). If it doesn't boot, I'll pull my 4770K and flash it, probably could use some new thermal paste on it anyway.

Section 3-17 of the English user manual I obtained (which applies to B/H/Z-G43 models) doesn't appear to list any exclusions for BCLK or multiplier.

intel later forced vendors to issue a bios update to block it a dick move on their part
unless asus told intel to screw off ... in witch case go ASUS

I bought the original deal with the MSI Z97 U3 Plus motherboard before it sold out.
It went fast. Two other people I know, besides me, got it too.

I'm tempted to buy one of the other combo deals and just sell the motherboard. With some of those combo deals, the CPU ends up being free.
The CPU will become a classic real fast and they'll quit making it before long.
Having one of them on the shelf that was never opened would be a good thing a few years from now.

Indeed, I have some requests in to build budget machines and this chip flies the best chip flag right now for the money. I also want one to play with as a HTPC and test some things of mine with.

I'm probably now going to have to wait and just start buying some ASAP because they are not going to be around for to long I have a feeling.

I didn't have a Z97 board for the i5-4690K that I just bought, (just a Z87) so I'm thinking of using the i5 with this MSI board, and my Z87 with the Pentium chip.

Maybe they'll crank out a few other deals with a Z97 board during the week. I wouldn't wait too long though.

I have no clue where your getting that this board does not allow overclocking, it features OC Genie 4. It can be overclocked or else this board would not have OC Genie 4 on it.

I still haven't used this combo yet. Too much other stuff going on. I noticed that the combo deals at Newegg with this CPU in them aren't so sweet anymore.

I did buy an ASUS H81I-PLUS/CSM board to use with this Pentium G3258. It will go into my InWin-901 M-ITX case. So far I plan to OC a little bit (4.0, 4.2 or so) and cool the CPU with a dual fan H50 AIO.
According to this article, it will OC to a certain level.

It will be my Media Box
