Hi OP, looking at your selection with your given setup I would say that it is most certainly an appropriate upgrade from your given system; in particular the components you have suggested for your machine.

Do look into alternative thermal pastes as ones which are pre-applied or provided in tube from manufacturer aren't that great.

My machine runs quite fine with value diamond Nano based compound thermal paste from Maplin's which isn't cheaper than normal silicone thermal paste, but cheaper than other diamond nano compounds and applied a lot better than the Antec Formula 7 Nano Diamond Thermal Compound which I used previous and was ridiculously thick and was a pain to get it to stay stuck, it really wouldn't surprise me if graphite was a part of the formula (hence the thermal pound which requires significant amount of heat from CPU to apply itself and be set properly for cooling results at idle and lighter performance to be better than from when the paste is first applied).

As for hardware upgrade there are plenty of other options and it is better to check other websites than just Scans such as Overclockers and Aria which can offer more choice of products and like Scan they can offer more specific categories and limited results for results than a middle seller website like ebay, amazon or ebuyer.

Of course last three websites can be better if you are looking for particular model of parts which main PC retailer websites won't sell.

Cheers,

Just to say I have purchased these products. tbh for the Mobo and CPU I doubt I'd find better ones on the market. I did my comparison and there is no way I was going to find them cheaper in the UK.

For the Thermal paste, I WILL deffinately be using the pre applied... as far as I am aware it is Shin Etsu and having used it before I was happy with the results.

Hi OP,

If thermal paste is good then I suppose it is okay, but from experience I found applying thermal paste myself is better than machine applied thermal paste. Generally though anything better than pre-applied is either intended for overclocking or stock temps running as low as possible, if neither matter then I guess this couldn't be a problem for you.

Well according to my research most who changed the TIM on the H100i regretted it afterwards, apparently its something Corsair got right.

And yes I will be overclocking but I have full faith in it.

Okay so just an update... All the upgrade parts have been bought and I have the following

Corsair 750D
Intel 4970K
Asus Z97 Sabertooth Mk1
Corsair H100i
Corsair SP120's PWM High Performance x 2 to go with H100i P/P

to go with the remaining parts which are.... (mainly GPU)

Sapphire HD 7970 Vapor X 3GB

What do you guys think or what would you change?

You mean "4790k" there ;) I'm assuming you carried forward the ssd, hdd, psu, and ram (though I think this is something I would change, just out of preference for a 2 stick kit and perhaps more of color match). All in all, build looks pretty great to me. Thermal paste will be fine, no worries.

If you are confident you may as well stick with pre-applied. Also as additional upgrade you can get higher frequency as well as higher capacity RAM for an upgrade, but it generally isn't necessary unless you want maximum capacity and fair frequency such as myself.

Opps.... yes.... 4790k eek...

and yes....

SSD
HDD
PSU (Is brand new, maybe 3 months old)
RAM
GPU

Are all ported over so the final specs are...

RAM will be replaced soon but is not a priority (limited funds)

CPU: Intel i7 4790k (will aim a 4.6oc nothing serious)
MOBO: Asus Z97 Sabertooth Mk1
COOLING: H100i in Push/Pull, two x front 140s 1x rear 140mm
MEMORY: Corsair XMS 8GB 1600
GPU: ATI Sapphire 7970 VAPOR X 3GB 1100/1500
DRIVES: Samsung SSD 840 pro (2 x 2TB WD Blacks)
PSU: XFX Pro 850w Black Edition

All in all I believe this will be a monster of a rig.

I wasn't always picky about that, but I've become more meticulous with my main rig recently. In fact, my msi z87 g45 has the brown pcb, and had I realized that before receiving it, I would have opted for the g65 with the true black pcb. The brown still looks good; can't really tell but still ;

In my other pcs, I do the best I can but am less concerned with it. As I said, it's all about preference.

I'd expect OCing to get easier when you're not using the onboard gpu. Though this does peak my curiosity, just how capable is said onboard?
