Western Digital Scorpio Black, Seagate Momentus or a Hitachi Travelstar. Pretty much the fastest 2.5 drives unless you buy a Crucial MX100 512GB for £140.

Look for the 7100RPM or 7200RPM drives.

Take a Momentus SSHD. A bit faster than normal HDDs for booting windows and frequent programs with the SSD cache, the same speed as a normal hard drive for other tasks. 7200 rpm ones tend to fail earlier, being a performance part and are disappearing from the market as the 5400 rpm ones become faster, most of them being old models still kept in production.

One is 7200 the other is 5400. 7200 drives are always more expensive than their 5400 counterparts.

While I am not a fan of standard, non SSD drives in laptops.. The scorpio black from WD would be my top pick.

WD black anyday.

If I were you, I will stick in a 120/240GB SSD for OS and programs, if the laptop has a optical drive, convert that to hold a 1TB drive or may be get an external 1TB drive.
