Can I replace my HDD for SSD in Asus G750JX laptop

I have an Asus G750JX laptop which has one 256GB SSD and one Hitachi 7200rpm 750GB HDD.
Is it possible to replace the Hitachi HDD for an SSD?

Yus definitely possible to replace your HDD with an SSD. I believe the G750JX supports 9.5mm drives so you'll have a large number of SSDs to choose from instead of only 7mm drives. 7mm drives will still fit the HDD cages inside the laptop. I've fitted a 500GB Samsung 840 EVO (7mm drive) to a friend's Asus G74 just fine, I'm assuming the HDD cages will be the same or very similar in the G750JX.

The HM87 chipset supports (I can't remember if it is 4 or 6 ports)* SATA 3 6Gbps ports so it should be running at its maximum potential should you install an SSD. Unlikely to be slower than what the manufacturers say unless they have exaggerated the performance of the drive on the spec sheet or you get a dead drive.

Both come with 3 years warranty
Would I really need that "laptop kit" or will the crucial do the job as well.
Now there is software with comes with the Evo, is that worth the 30 Euros extra?

The Crucial has a Marvell 88SS9189 chipset and MLC type memory, do you think that is better then Samsung MEX chipset with TLC-NAND?

A Kingston 480GB costs 348 Euro here!

That sounds like you just have a faulty SSD. Have you updated the firmware to the latest version? As there was a known issue with the Evo's.

Honestly, its not a fault ssd, because other programs works just fine, i have Windows 7 ultimate 64 on it.... and yes latest microprogram on chip, the reason i write this was that i think Samsungs SSD controller are not universal, and for high level gaming better would be SandForce because this one is using at all chempionships around the world. Btw i have WD black 500 gb, and with it my windows load times was around 12sec, With Samsung 840 evo i have the same time, and in World Of Warcaft no difference between WD Black and 840 evo SSD. So i think no point in getting 840 evo at all))) My opinion is to get another SSD.

I am extremely observant player, and even with my benq xl2420 120hz monitor and low latency gtg, i didn't notice crosshair delay from start, just after comparing two cs 1.6 one after another(steam ofc, config.cfg fps_max "120.0" fps_override "1" only read V //all SSD optimizations are done(turn off index. etc.)

That is not possible. WD Black cannot have a similar or faster boot time than a good SSD. Either the SSD is borked, or your WD Black Windows boot times are drastically over-exaggerated.

They don't use SandForce SSD's because they're better, they use them because they're getting paid to use them/get them for free (sponsorship).

I think you need to go back and recheck that load time on the HDD. Also did you get the firmware update for that Samsung EVO SSD?

MX100. It has excellent IOPS (That's what really matters not sequential read/write), and doesn't cost your kidney for a lot of capacity. While I have the EVO, and I'm happy with it, I'm waiting on a deal for the 512GB MX100, simply because it's superior value for money. Even TPU reviews said it was ace.

Let me try to debunk some of this thread..... CSS 1.6 is old. I doubt installing onto an SSD would make it run that much faster. maps are small, and all the graphical textures are all low quality stuff. I was running C.S 1.6 back in the day on an IDE (133Mhz bus) and dust, office & the usual still managed to load in a matter of seconds. Your claims of the SSD adding crosshair delay are unfounded and if you are suffering crosshair delay then it probably is something else in your system thats causing it. Why am i sure of this??? Its because the 840 Evo has sold MILLIONS if not BILLIONS and this is the first time I have heard of ANY SSD causing this Issue.

You promote Kingston, but in fact Kingston is guilty of something worse then adding 'crosshair lag' to your game... Long story short - They sent reviewers a premium product to be reviewed but changed the memory chips to something more inferior that doesnt compare to the performance charts in the reviews. While the article only mentions the V300. Ive heard some talk or 'rumors' (if you must) on PCPer that Kingston even did this to their HyperX series of performance SSDs. Unfortunately nobody knows how deep the rabbit hole goes regarding this issue.

As an owner of a MX100 & previous owner of an 840 Evo - you cant go wrong with either..... One of the advantages with the Evo is 'rapid mode' which uses some of your ram for ram caching, So if you have 8-64Gigs of ram you can make use of this feature. Though the performance boost with it on is situational but things do feel a bit snappier with it turned on. YMMV

I guess it would come down to whichever is cheapest for you. I'd go for the MX100, although if the MX100 is significantly more than the 840 EVO where you live, than the 840 EVO will do fine.

EDIT: FreedomEclipse is right about the RAPID mode with Samsung's offerings, it does feel noticeably quicker with it enabled - though that is only if you have the ram to make use of this feature.

REDIT(lol): Just read that the Crucial is cheaper. Definitely go for that then. I don't believe RAPID mode is worth the extra $$ or Euros. It is more a cool feature imo.

And no a 'laptop kit' wouldn't be needed. A bare drive is all you need. Just use the screws and drive cage that are holding in your current HDD in your laptop and it should be all sweet

This, also the free acronis truimage is rather useful. Means you don't have to reinstall all your junk (though it's still advisabe). Used it a lot a work when we redo laptops to integrate SSD's across the school.
