A system for Sims, WoW, LoL, etc.

I am super bored today, and my sister and her boyfriend mentioned wanting a computer for Sims 3 and 4, WoW, LoL, and other MMO's. No AAA titles like BF4 or anything. I put together 2 systems on Newegg, which price within $10 of each other. For these particular titles, which one would you choose.

Option 1:

Option two will give greater CPU power while keeping the power usage down. The GTX660 is amazing though I'd go for the MSI TF 660 OC because I can personally say that it's a solid card.

For the games to be played on that rig, LoL, WoW, etc., what about a AMD FM2+ APU build? An APU rig could bring the price down at least a hundred dollars or more.

APUs don't have the CPU performance that the i3 can bring, nor can it keep up with something like the 660. While costing less, it also costs performance.

Well the first system is similar to mine so it can definitely play AAA titles. BF4 @30-35 fps on ultra.
But if I remember correctly Wow benefits from a better single core performance so I'd go with the i3 but as GLD suggested an APU would make more sense depending on the resolution they will play on.

Why didn't you use the same case for both builds?

option 1 because is more "futureproof" and when oc'ed will be much faster than already is. the i3 may have better single t perf but its 2 vs 6 cores.. simple math. an apu solution would be optimal for this kind of games though and much cheeper.

I don't have interest overclocking a system that is not mine nor did I spend the money on the hardware encase something goes wrong I don't want to be liable for it.

I dont know, I looked at benchmarks and the best APU is a bit meh at 1080p in these games.

so I did the same? Talking about future, we all did that since a couple years ago, and an i3 is still quite fast... Benchmark are benchmark but real life production is another thing. Saying that FX is more futureproof, well we did that for amd Phenom, Intel Q****.. and they still use to something but architecture make the difference too... as for i3 vs fx, one will be better in a case, the other will be better at something else.

IMO, the i3 is a better choice as you can upgrade over the future too.. Just taking consideration that buy a used 4670 or 4790 in one or 2 year will make the system a better choice instead of the AMD FX. We don't really know what's coming after vishera and if AM3+ will change to something else. What we can take as a consideration, is having a better LGA1150 board and can be upgrade to broadwell.

Upgrading later the FX 6300 for a 8350 vs upgrading the i3 to an i7, the intel choice is a better.

Forget about option 1. it`s dead end.. had the Fx 6300 running at 4.4ghz go intel you wont regret it
Got the i5 4690k now, it can run rings around the Fx 6300 running at same 4.4ghz

#2 seems like a decent enough pick of the choices because based on the game choices you do not need an extreme amount of CPU power either way but an Intel choice could be king in this situation (The i3 would be fine for a budget option). I think the intel rig is the better choice. I like AMD but I would go with an APU the issue being the upgrade path is pretty dead so I suggest the following because everyone seems to be going up in proce.

IMO both options are not ideal. Try the Athlon X4 860K. For these games, a GTX 750 will be sufficient.

The Athlons don't bring enough power! Why do so few understand this? AMD is better for a seriously tight budget while MMOs run best on Intels. I've personally tested this and it's true.

OP stay with the Intel route and if you can bump to an i5, then go for it. An i3 is also a very good choice.

maybe so, but coupled with a very cheap r7 250 would go a long way performance wise

also if this build is for a person that its not very into tinkering with his/her rig dont overthink it imo, just build a decent cheap rig, it will do the job

since this is a rig on a budget get the best bang for the buck part, imo its AMD but opinions..
