Well 970 and 980 is just not enough to do an upgrade, new tech node or GTFO both Nvidia and AMD.

From a performance standpoint it does not matter, the card is still fast, affordable and better than any alternative.

NVIDIA has been lying to us and you about it, and that's not right from an ethical/company reputation standpoint, but whether that's worth it to you to compromise on gaming is up to you.

Aye what I was thinking aswell, apart from the "better than any alternative", which kinda depends on whether you prefer noise/heat/powerdraw over performance.
If you don't mind that stuff the AMD competitor might be better for the price, but I guess that has always been the case regardless.

well i am glad i didn't sidegrade and ditched my 290 and rather put her under a water loop ... i guess i will wait the R9 3xxX, since getting a second 2nd hand 290 would cost me around a 960 price ... nvidia has no viable option for me, even if i need to buy another set of waterblock backplate CFX linker, adding that to the fact they didn't told the truth behind since the beginning ... tho i wonder why the 980 doesn't have that problem afaik it use the same 256bit memory bus, shouldn't the memory allocation be the same?

I'm waiting for the next gen (or GM200) from AMD or Nvidia. I hummed and hawed about ditching my 780ti (with it's paltry 3Gb) for either dual 970's or 980's but in the end I stuck with buying a second 780ti off ebay. Best choice for me.

Knowing what I know now though, no, i wouldn't consider the 970 (as the sole reason for me to upgrade would have been the memory allocation for future games). If the 980 came down in price, I would have plumped for that instead. But now, knowing in a few months we might see bigger and better from both camps, I'll stick.

I'm keeping mine. A GTX970 at 1080p doesn't really suffer from the issue. I can understand that someone with SLI and higher resolutions returns them as they can use the ROPs, L2 cache and memory with the added GPU power.

Waiting for it to blow over. Yes they were dishonest, and a driver update won't fix that, and that irks me a little bit. Would I like free money back because I bought one? Sure.

No. It's the best card available in it's price range, there is no other card that can take that place, so returning my 970 would be kicking myself in the balls. I bought it because of reviews and price, neither of which were mis-sold to me.

I have no loyalty to any brand. Frankly, next upgrade, I don't care who I buy from, I want the best card for my money. Both teams have screwed up big time, there's no denying that, it just so happens to be NVidia's turn this time around.

they screwed up the way they did it and thought gamers and reviewers where to stupid to ever figure it out. it affects the performance especially if you have sli and if they try some optimization instead of just disabling it.. in a few years they will say screw you stupid gamers again and drop further optimization.
they think everyone is stupid... o.. um we miscommunicated and no one at the company reads reviews.
lets see what happens when the 960 goes under the microscope. maybe we find maxwell has a crucial flaw and cant be properly cut down so maybe thats why they lied in the first place.

For Folding @ Home PPD, the GTX970 is "still the best card hands down". Fortunately, F@H barely uses any memory on the GPU. I have 4-970's and soon to be adding 2-4 more. Love the efficiency of this card compared to my 4P Opty servers.

I think W1zzard summed it up nicely. That's the way I see it also. I won't be returning my card for a refund because the 970 works fine for me. I would like a $50 refund but I won't let this deter me from buying Nvidia again. I may wait a while to see what shakes out in the future before buying but I think Nvidia will be very careful with communicating specs in the near future anyway.

impossible.. the segments cant be accessed at the same time so if there was cache that needed to be accessed during gaming there would be micro stutter. they may pray on gamer stupidity again and say its optimized for some placebo affect.

You deserve spank, you missed the whole witch hunt , dig up the graphs and learn, the 970th has a cut down L2 to memory crossbar section that has access to their own cluster of ram, it is not tied directly to core memory crossbar, but to a neighboring bus section doing a reroute to access that space and is slower due to that.

Imagine it as a crutch for an amputee in order to walk .

Remember that "perception is reality". If the card works for him with the games/settings he is using, then there is no issue.

It's more like having 18 aisles to 18 tills and 17 till operators. The catch is operator number 17 has to jump between the 17th and 18th till.

All the tills bar the last one operate at full speed permanently, but occasionally when til 18 gets used, it slows down the speed of til 17 and 18. The other 16 tills aren't affected.

is it the biggest deal ever? no but the problem I see is if they take the direction they should and just make it so that segment cant be used then they will have to call it a 3.5gb gpu making them guilty of false advertising thus will be forced to take them back from anyone who wants to return it.
so will nvidia own up and fix the performance or play games with optimizations so they can keep the 4gb status.

I'm still keeping mine, performs amazing & I only game at 1920x1080 so no big memory issue for me really but it has put my trust with Nvidia down a lot. When the R9 380X or 390X release I will consider them

I never planned on getting a 970, but if something happened with my 780ti, a 970 would not be an option as a replacement. Actually, I'd probably look to AMD for a replacement because of this(a 290X for $300 is not bad at all). Not saying I would never buy from Nvidia again, but I would voice my opinion on their actions in the only way I can, with my money.
