Hi, I'm looking at upgrading my gpu which is a gigabyte 7750 2gb oc ddr3 had for about 2 years or so and would like to play games like shogun 2 and rome 2 reasonably well. I primarily play total war games but I'm looking for a decent card that can play Shogun 2 and above total war games on high or ultra with reasonable fps around 40-60 would be nice. Looking for a reasonable card under $240 that would be able to play those games on those settings. Was looking at a R9 270x 2gb or a GTX 750ti but anyone suggestions or help would be appreciated.

Umm, its gfx advice he wants...

OP- if you can hold out till next month, AMD should be announcing their new line up. Buying now unless essential might be unwise.
I'm building a PC for my dad but holding off till June for the gfx card myself.

And a 270x is only a revamped HD 7870.

yap but total war is cpu bound game so if he want better fps he will get more from cpu upgrade then gpu upgrade.

Woah okay just read that review on the psu, seems like a pretty awful one and yeah it did come with the case. I'd rather not spend too much on the psu though. I'm in Australia so things are a little more expensive. Upgrade psu then gpu or? Was looking at
Aerocool VP-Series 550w PSU or
Thermaltake Smart Power 550W - 80 Plus Bronze Power Supply these are between $70-80
would they be sufficient? and as for the card, which would be best for price R9 270 oc 2gb asus at $209 or R9 270x 2gb asus at $235 or GTX 750 ti 2gb gigabyte at $189? and would a 550w psu be sufficient for these gpus?
Also read that my psu is actually 120w or something don't know if its true or not

Seriously look at the GTX 760. I think it uses less power than the R9 270. And a 500w would be fine but it need to be a Active PFC and Bronze, or Gold 80+ Are you in the US?

Yeah... that PSU is dangerous to you and your system. I'd advise changing that to pretty much any other reputable PSU maker immediately, then move on to the graphics.

Are you in the US?

He's in Australia.

That Thermaltake would be my preference of the two but neither are stellar.

I actually have a metric butt-ton (that's a technical unit) of PSUs floating around. But I'm in USA. Do you have import duties there? I may be able to help you out cheaply... For the record I don't buy crappy PSUs and what I have on hand are largely Rosewill FORTRESS units, which are very good for the money.

Of course, it'll cost $30 to get it there... not sure what your budget is. I could let one of the 550W go for like $70 USD including shipping (meaning I pay it).

Had the system for about two years so really lucky nothing has happened yet with that dodgy thing but thanks for letting me know, I'll try to get onto it asap. The GTX 760 is $239 and out of stock at the moment but I'm in no rush apart from the psu. Would the gtx 760 be going down in price in a months time like with new models or? I'm in Australia

For the rest of the world it'll go down some but not much (it's already seen itself drop a bit). I think in Australia it may even get more expensive with time as stock dwindles, but then something else (better) will probably take it's place at that price bracket. Nature of technology.

...And holy shit is USPS wanting a lot for Australian shipping ($55+). You guys really do live on the bottom of the world don't you?

Sorry, you're on your own here as far as buying one... I tried. :)

Yeah just checked that 960 but it's too exspensive in Australian it's over $240 which is the max I'm willing to spend on a card at the moment

Unfortunately it's no beauty itself (I'm just going by the brands reputation mind you), but it's better than what you have by a large margin if it's truly Gold certified... or at least I hope. Some sketchy companies fudge both wattage and efficiency ratings like crazy.

I'm not too worried, as long as it's much more safer and efficient than the cheapo one I currently have

I'd google the model name and the word "review" and see if it's safer... I don't think you can get much worse than the one you have, but you can certainly do better in the long run than that Shaw if you save a bit... then again it's kinda hard to save up when you're worried about an impending PSU explosion amirite?

Yeah you are right, of course it never really worried me because I didn't know the full details on it but now that I do, probably going to need to buy one fairly soon
