Whenever i play any game, i cant play for more then 20-30 minutes without the computer restarting (originally) or BSD. Or complete freeze of the screen that makes me restart the computer. I get a message in the BSD that a file got stuck in a infinite loop. i have tried, new drivers, old drivers, a complete clean reinstall of everything including Windows XP. Restarts have occured on the following games, Vanguard Saga of heroes, LOTR Online, World of Warcraft, City of Heroes (Very Rare on this game), and Toon Town Online, (Extremely Rare. Here is my system info. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My old Radeon 9600XT had the same exact error and I put my 9550 in, and it went away. Mine was the card itself, I replaced it and never again have I had the problems.

In the future, remember, we are not some kind of freaks that can actually understand that DIAXDIAG crap. And we can't read BSOD code either. Just tell us what the problem is and your system specs, and we'll prolly be able to diagnose it ;).

Anyways. Considering that changing all your software doesn't help, you can rule out a problem with software. Quickly check to make sure you have the latest version of DirectX9.0C, install the latest version of ATI Catalyst (check http://ati.amd.com/ ), and then download ATItool. Once it's installed, scan for artifacts, and take careful note of exactly how hot your graphics card gets. If it gets too hot, your computer WILL have problems.

Oh, and Ketxxx is right, make sure your power supply has at least 20A total on the 12V+ rail. (If you have two 10A 12V+ rails, this is the same as one 20A rail, and should be fine).

also have you reformated or reinstalled windows at all as this sometimes sort little bugs out!!

it sounds like a psu problem but its hard to be sure!could be the card itself sometimes you can just be unlucky and get the bad one out of 1000s

2x10A rails are not the same, splitting the power over 2 rails reduces overall +12v rail wattage ;) I would go into exact details, but I cant remember them fully atm. In a nutshell, if you have a single 20A 12v rail, thats fine, if you have a dual 20A 12v rail, thats not fine, if its dual it should be a good 34A to remian on the safe side. However any moderd midrange system or better should have a PSU with a good 30A or better on its 12v rail. and I can also understand a good chunk of that DXdiag stuff...

i have a X1800 XT PE and a master and both these cards have issues if I game with out the fan at 100% . I also have a x1950xtx Master and slave and both these cards have issues if I game with out the fans at 100% .
If my PC room is on the chilly side not as much of an issue , but after more than an hour of FPS gaming then still an issue . If my PC room is on the warm side then always an issue gaming unless the fans are at 100% .. Now you may be able to get away with 75% or 85% but I use 75% for non gaming and 100% for gaming...Hope this helps;)

Ps. my cards never hit more than 62ish at 100% fan speed and never an issue.

85 is normalish for 1950xt,

if this card is an HIS iceQ 3 turbo there lies your problem as i had one of those and regardless of what i did it continued to still constantly crash i belive it may have something to do with the memory timings on the 512mb cards also

Hey dude, can you respond? Your PSU is the main culpruit anyway, Something like an antec NeoHE 430W at the minimal dude... Unstable power supply = bad performance and crashes.

there are 2 reasons a pc will reboot by itself.

1. heat, your pc has a built in feature to shutdown or reboot if it reaches a certain temp.

2. power supply, if your power supply is faulty your pc may act irradicly and reboot is one of the symptoms.

if your card was faulty you would see artifacts or some distorting visuals on the screen, i doubt it would simply reboot.

Ram would not reboot your pc, ram ussualy gives a blue screen like memory dump before it reboots.

Heh, actually you can make a PC flat out reboot with dodgy graphics, I've done it, many, many times while making modified X1950Pro BIOS files :D

DUH , ofcourse if you flash a card rebooting can be a factor from it, but then we are not talking about a standard card now are we ?

he said that he played games for around 30 minutes before his pc rebooted.

That's helping how? We're all here to help, not wise to attack those who you don't know in a place you're new in, try that at a workplace or in school if you're young enough and learn the "real life" lesson of that, it may do some good.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Onto the real topic at hand,

I agree on the PSU, the x1950 series are power hogs for sure. But my pro with the AC X2 cooler never saw above 53-55c ever, even when I had one front intake and the top exhaust disabled (for silence). I try and maintian decent airflow, as with these newer "performance" components, heat is the enemy. And I understand the X2 is more efficient than OEM cooling, but 95C+ is crazy!

Can you set the fan @ 100% and let us know what your temps are then? How long are you letting artifact scanner run? How long did the card work as expected or normal shall I say before you started getting this problem?

I was getting random reboots with my x1950 pro. I solved it with better airflow. The system was already cool with a 27 degree system temp GPU core temp of 68 degrees and a ambient temp that raised to 50 degrees on the card.

I attached a 120mm fan to blow cool air over the card and it lowered my ambient temperature down to 40 or so core never goes above 60 now and it never crashes.

You can test if the power is the problem by monitoring your +12 volt with software in windows use either systool or speedfan or your motherboards own utility.

I think the VM's on the x1950's overheat and that is not always related to the core temperature of the card.
